I was going to post something similar. I don’t think there have been any great abundance of RPGs, especially CRPGs, over the past ten years. RPG of the decade isn’t actually as impressive as it sounds.
Disco Elysium is probably BG3's strongest competition.
Disco Elysium is a fun game, but it has a fixed protagonist. For me creating my own character is something I love in an rpg! DE is a game I played once, while BG3 I will play multiple times. BG3 has a much bigger scope.
Yes, I prefer to create my own character too. As much as I like Geralt of Rivia for example, having read some of the books and all, I can never relate to him, like I can relate to my Tav, Warden, Malkavian, Revan etc.
