Hey everyone,

Just read this discussion on Reddit and would love to have some kind of official knowledge here.

Will it make more sense to delete EA on August 2nd, and re download everything all at once in August 3rd - filesize changes and so on, so less downloaded data but more stuff to write on the drive anyways.

Or just download the full version as a patch to EA and be done?

I think that's something really interesting for us players to know because, let's face it, no one wants to loose even one unnecessary minute before playing wink

I am planning to leave it installed and do it as an update/patch. No point redownloading all those textures for no reason.

I was thinking the same thing, the won't have "Stone 1" - "Stone X" changed, right?

But I'm not sure how the data packaging works and would really like some official comment here. Are those even given?

Can't ask the devs on Twitter, don't have an account anymore.

I imagine there will be an announcement about this and pre-loading in the next week or two.

What does everyone expect the download size to be.

Because if we have between 100 - 150 gig to download, and assuming a 5 p.m Gent time release as seemingly (read on Reddit, didn't verify) was the case with D:OS 2, I wouldn't even be able to play on the 3rd, but on the 4th.

6.5MB/s or something like that. Even less when assuming the Steam servers not being up to the task.

Re the time, the first result of a google for "baldurs gate 3 release time" had this nugget:

"As of now, no specific times are listed for the game’s release but is likely to unlock at 12 a.m. ET"

Why they say that's likely, they don't mention

I can't remember where it was mentioned, but I did see someone from Larian stating that the actual install of the full version would be approximately 80 GB but that they wanted you to have about 150 GB free for install to ensure better system performance.

I'll be uninstalling the game, remove all trace of mods then reinstalling.

That's actually a lot less, would be good if that were the case. Nearly half of above estimate (worst case estimate, but still).

Thank god I didn't play with mods, so I don't actually have to do that.

I reached out to support and received this reply: "if you already have the game installed, it will likely redownload at release due to the number of changes made since Early Access, the Early Access version may reduce the download file size but I don't have any specific information to share unfortunately."

Based on that it's a toss-up whether it's better to re-install from scratch or just download the release version over the EA version. I would also suggest removing any mods before a re-install. I intend to wait until mods are "certified" for the release version.

yea, I'm just installing all new. No chance of getting a corrupted file or something, or is that even a thing ? lol just seems wise to me.
