It is actually an interesting video, since it uncovered some new things.
Humans get not only light armor & polearms proficiency, but also proficiency with shields and in Persuasion.
Half-Elves get "human weapon proficiency" (light armor, shields and polearms) instead of elven (swords & bows), but don't have Perception proficiency to compensate for getting light armor & shields.
That does make them more competitive for some caster classes, since these would be able to have 1h staff + shield and wear non-chest armor that requires light armor proficiency, but still keeps these races worse for martial classes than most other races, since most of them get light armor, polearms and shield proficiencies anyway. As a result, both these races could use additional boosts or even better - make +2 / +1 rule optional for all races and let people pick between 5e standard attribute bonuses and +2 / +1 via toggle and take the preferred option.
