It is actually an interesting video, since it uncovered some new things.
Humans get not only light armor & polearms proficiency, but also proficiency with shields and in Persuasion.
Half-Elves get "human weapon proficiency" (light armor, shields and polearms) instead of elven (swords & bows), but don't have Perception proficiency to compensate for getting light armor & shields.

That does make them more competitive for some caster classes, since these would be able to have 1h staff + shield and wear non-chest armor that requires light armor proficiency, but still keeps these races worse for martial classes than most other races, since most of them get light armor, polearms and shield proficiencies anyway. As a result, both these races could use additional boosts or even better - make +2 / +1 rule optional for all races and let people pick between 5e standard attribute bonuses and +2 / +1 via toggle and take the preferred option.

Light armor proficiency seems pretty mediocre. Maybe the itemization will convince me otherwise post August 3 but... Mage armor is equivalent to studded leather +1, and any class that doesn't already have light armor proficiency probably does have a way to obtain mage armor.

Persuasion proficiency on the other hand might be useful in some cases. It would allow a human warlock to get proficiency in all of the talky skills without taking beguiling influences (and if you are human you NEED that second level two invocation for devil sight anyway).

Still not a good loadout for humans. No reason to pick them aside from aesthetics.

Yeah they really scr..ed over Humans, Dwarves and Half elves with the recent controversial change to ability scores. Heck Tasha itself was highly controversial for D&D 5E, and it still is believe me.
With this current change in play Ill only play BG 3 races that can mirror PHB ability score bonuses, until either Larian comes to their senses, or someone makes a mod to fix that ill advised change.

To Larian: You already have the PHB system in place, you had in in EA, at least add it as an option, or better yet, make the new system and option (as it is in 5E).
PS: Also add deity choice for Paladin, copy Cleric deity choice to Paladin, add none as option, problem fixed, voila!. They need, and should have one. And Lorewise most are dedicated to one (Scag).

I agree that half elves were nerfed, but the case for dwarves is a bit more complicated. They definitely do lose a stat point (which sucks) but they still get medium armor proficiency, and they can put a +2 in any stat now. Dwarves are pretty good for caster classes now.

Put 17 in main stat, 16 in constitution, and 14 in dex (for medium armor) and still have 2 leftover for whatever floats your boat.

They are less good for melee classes now, but that medium armor proficiency was wasted for them on a melee class anyway.

Am I weird bc while watching I was like "Come on, show me the Half Orcs, show me the Half Orcs, show me the Half Orcs". Larian was pretty...reserved to let us see some facial variants. In this vid you can see at least 4 variants for the male Half Orcs. But I felt kinda..underwhelmed? xD And at least in my head Half Orcs don*t really have to look like 100% Orc given that at least one half of their parents might be human (or maybe even Elf or Tiefling or Gnome or whatever). So, I am here to show some love for my fellow Half Orcs.

That said, this vid was interesting. I don*t know enough about DnD or min/max, so I can*t really contribute to that discussion, but for the moment I openminded and try to learn via reading what others have to say about that.

I also feel strongly about the new attribute systems being an option and chatter around everywhere is that everyone else feels the same way.

A lot of people just don't like a system where your racial choice doesn't matter in regards to your class choices and doesn't mesh with the lore very well. It's far more interesting for a lot of people to play an underdog character, like a Gnome Barbarian or a Half-Orc Wizard.

Also the Variant Human thing is a huge deal for a lot of the community. We will have to see on release but I am betting if Larian doesn't do it - it will probably be the first Mod on the table.
