I'll probably pick a custom character and choose the bard class. I initially thought I'd choose a warlock as a starting class, but bard probably gives you the benefit of having more viable dialogue options due to high char and skill focus, and possibly less haughty/condescending/dark class specific dialogue choices than other spellcasters that rely on charisma.
The promise of being led to death is reason enough to follow.
I was going to create my classic Drow bard for my first playthrough but then decided against it and used a randomizer to determine race and class Got half orc paladin which I think is going to be a fun combination! I'll go with oath of the ancients and I plan to specialise in two handed weapons in the hope of finding some cool halberd/polearn.
Hello all, I'm new and really don't know where to start as far as asking things about BG3. Is there a place here for new players to start from? Looking forward to the release on Steam.

DRAGON FIRE-AND DOOM Dragons? Splendid things, lad-so long as ye look upon them only in tapestries, or in the masks worn at revels, or from about three realms off... Astragarl Hornwood, Mage of Elembar - Year of the Tusk

Well in terms of where to start off with the game I suggest trying to figure out what you'll want to do at the character creation screen...there are a lot of races, subraces, classes and subclasses to pick from, all aside from the origin characters of which there are 7, and six of them can become NPC companions if you don't play as them. There's quite a lot to look over and unpack before the game even starts. Here's a fairly short overview of what to consider when choosing what races to play as:
How well do you think a Sorcerer/Bard(College of Lore) would be in the game? I like the RP aspect(Great in speech checks) but not sure how viable outside of that with the game mechanics.
Barb is, I think the *only* class that genuinely needs to rely on STR. Not saying it can;t be done going Dex, but.. Particularly effective, it probably is not. You get STR bonuses from Rage - which is wasted on a dex fighter. You also rely heavily on throwing things [and/or people].

Yes, in tabletop. In BG3 Barbarians abilities like Rage works with Dex too. Only loss is throwing and jumping which use STR.

That only apply to Tabletop ... In Baldur's Gate III. ... or at very least during Early Acess ... Rage give bonus to Dexterity attacks aswell.
Not really sure if they fixed even ranged attacks, but im pretty sure that it was boosting even those at some point.
I still dont understand why cant we change Race for our hirelings. Lets us play Githyanki as racist as they trully are!
