Do we know if these are going to be a thing on final release? It currently is not. I don't think I saw any heavy armor in the PFH footage or anything else that's come out.

I don't think so, most likely we will need a mod for that.

Unfortunate, I was kind of hoping there would be a bit more of a cost to using the stuff than just requiring proficiency. Feels like casters really luck out being able to dump stat strength and still be able to wear 18 AC plate armor as long as they get the proficiency (which is quite easy assuming they grab a feat or take a single lvl fighter/ranger/certain domains of cleric dip).

I had to look up how this works for 5e because I didn't remember most armors having strength requirements. Now I don't know if BG3 implements this but in 5e only heavy armors have some strength requirements and even those aren't hard requirements as lacking the strength only reduces movement speed by 10ft, which really isn't the worst thing, light and medium only require their associated proficiencies to wear.

Trust me, 10 ft of move speed can make a lot of difference ...

Anyway, it should have been in the game along with the loading property for crossbows.

They have not implemented it, as long as you have the proficiency you can wear the armor without issue. So an 8 str character can move just as far as an 18 str character in the same armor.

Larian implemented optional rules for carry capacity. Those rules include that you don't need strength for heavy armor, 'cause it already takes toll on your carry capacity.

I like Strength requirements for Heavy Armor.

They diversify builds, give a reason for Ring Mail and Chain Mail to exist, give a reason for odd numbered Strength scores to exist, and make strong characters feel strong when not everyone can just wear what they're wearing with equal efficiency.

Restrictions are good for the game when they are reasonable. 8 Str characters wearing Full Plate is just giving players as much cake as they can eat. Giving them a movement penalty would be very reasonable.

Heavy weapons should have them too.

A plate armor still weighs 65 lb and that will affect carrying capacity of all creatures who have dumped their strength.

BG3 has a carry capacity calculated a 15 per point of strength...a character with 8 strength can carry max of 105...put that heavy armor on along with the weight of your other equipment and you can carry nothing other than the gear you equipped. It definitely doesn't incentivize characters with low strength to wear heavy armor.

No, your information is not up to date. They implemented optional rule for carry capacity a while ago. It's now 10 lb per point in strength and starting from 2/3 of you carry capacity you get penalties. So a character with just 8 in strength will be affected by those penalties if they take a plate armor.

That seems like a pretty hardcore rule that seems designed to punish, confuse and annoy 'casuals'. Lol Unless the penalties ate minor. Still, that could be rough. Should be optional.
