For a melee fighter in Bg3 the most important tactical consideration is Movement.
I have seen it over and over again over thousands of hours of play in this game.
Bad tanks are bad because they aren't where they need to be - this is true regardless of build.
Sometimes it's a matter of a tank not understanding that they need to be in front, and they are not positioning themselves well in the party movement order, so when combat starts they are at the back of the party. That's just a bad player, if they can't fix it they need to play something else.
However, sometimes it's because you chose Gnome and you are trying to "baby legs" your slow ass around the battlefield.
Wood Elf, Half Wood Elf are the best choices for Barbarian because of that extra 5 feet of movement, and Fey ancestry. Half-Orc is a close second because of all the amazing racials like relentless endurance and Savage attacks.
There are other ways to strengthen wisdom saves with Barbs, sometimes equipment, sometimes pacts with dark God's (Loviatar) and sometimes you take a Level in Cleric.
