The XBox release date is not yet confirmed. We know that Larian are intending to release on XBox, but were struggling getting it working properly on both versions which apparently is a requirement from XBox. I think we'll just need to wait for news on this one.

its actually very hard to design for Xbox... the fact that Larian is even willing to try surprises me

Recently, developers have opened out about how challenging it is to create games on the Xbox Series S, especially when it comes to memory constraints. The creators of Control and Alan Wake, Remedy Entertainment, warned that the console's limited RAM would cause problems with game performance and development.

As others mentioned XBOXS is the troublemaker - specifically split screen feature. Larian is actively working on XBOX port, but it’s not clear how long it will take to pull it off.

While a cool concept, XBOX S has been criticised since its announcement. Afterall, what’s the benefit of “the most powerful console” if all games that release there must be optimised for its far weaker smaller sibling? Larian could aim for XBOXX and release subpar port for XBOXS, but they opted to delay the release instead. It’s an unfortunate situation - no matter what decision you make someone will be unhappy.

PlayStation is easier because it’s a single target. They only have to optimize for one relatively powerful console. XBox is harder because they have to optimize for two targets of differing performance.

All three consoles have similar 8-core Zen 2-based CPUs running at around 3.5 GHz. They also share RDNA2-based graphics and a unified memory architecture. Both the Series X and the PS5 have 16GB of memory while the Series S has 10GB. The other real difference between the three is the graphics core, with the Series S falling far behind the other two. The Series X GPU has 52 compute units clocked at up to 1.82 GHz, while the PS5 has 36 clocked at up to 2.23 GHz so they offer broadly similar performance. Meanwhile the Series S has 20 compute units clocked at 1.55 GHz.

That’s basically half the graphics performance of either of the other two and much less memory. It’s no wonder that developers don’t like developing for XBox when the Series S holds everything back.

Star Citizen is having a similar issue, they had to cap FPS at 30 because of the S.

Honestly, if I were a game developer, I would just put 360p trash resolution on Xbox S version and call it a day. If some poor cheap ass bugger wants to game on Xbox S, then let him/her suffer for it.

Microsoft has big pockets and it can look easy enough before you start... then the lawyers point out the cause is not negotiable (because they are suits with no real clue)

anyway i'm sure Larian has a team working on it and "we get there when we get there"

Hey OP, would you be fine with Larian having to cap FPS at 30 on both machines to meet the requirements?
