Honestly, the easiest fix for this is to just drop an NPC in the first couple rooms of the ship. He could be a thrall that is cowering or something, and the game gives you convo options on how to deal with him. Something like:
- Leave him alone
- Put him out of his misery
- [Paladin] Kill him and break your divine oath.

Then if you pick the Paladin option give a follow up for clarity. Something like:
You consider if ending this creature is worth giving up on the tenants of your faith.
- Give up on the thought. Your oath is the source of your powers and you don't want to abandon them for this creature.
- Kill him. You'll find another source for divine powers, a darker one to fit your soul.

It could make a nice teachable moment for new players on the dangers of breaking your oath in a very clear situation, and give experienced players a quick way to gain the class without messing with the rest of the structure and code involved with the oathbreaker.
