Yeah, they made an emphasis on the freedom of choice, thats why there isn't any like TRUE canonical class, but they certainly had a vision for the character while creating it - that is very likely given the art and the presentation. The whole memory loss thing and the urges you can RESIST and the art with a paladin supposedly murdering his travelling crew kinda screams a trope! The whole murder story is intriguing too and it presents the character as a skillful assassin, even though sometimes brutish.

The messy anchor kill screams barbarian and their mastery with improvised weapons, too. But the nimble escape after that with little trace.. its some sneaky class shenanigans, no doubt.
