I just assumed it was such a small bit that it wasn't enough to fully 'classify' her as baahlspawn. In game she didn't dust if she died, and she could live in your Pocket Dimension like Sarevok, who had a wisp of essence, and also no longer counted as Baahlspawn.

I mean if you are trying to rebuild a beach, and a couple grains of sand aren't accounted for, no one is going to call off the project.

Honestly it never seemed like Viekang had much either. I assumed that Abdel was the one who died in the battle which released the last significant soul and acted as a magnet for the rest of the energy to reconstruct itself.

Hmm, that's an interesting theory...

But maybe it has something to do with the accumulation of power.
Since Abdel refused to become a god, we can assume that Solar destroyed the throne of blood.
But not all existing baahlspawn were dead at the end of ToB. I think there may have been dozens still alive by then.
Of course, most of them were just weak spawns, as you aptly compared it, grains of sand on a beach.

When Bhaal was revived after a hundred years, he was little more than a shadow.
So he just started collecting these grains of sand and when Abdel died (had pockets full of sand), he finally had enough to become a god again.
However, now he only has a fraction of his original power and is therefore only Quasi-deity (barely more than a demigod) and not a full god.

Kudos for remembering that Viekang should have survived ToB though, I was positively surprised that he was the one who attacked.

But Imoen is also alive and still young.
Why was Abdel recognized as a Bhaalspawn and Imoen not?

If Imoen was with CHARNAME at the throne, she loses her taint, if I recall correctly.
Also, there is no knowledge about Imoen, since Minsc journal is not canon and never should be.
And I know of no other source that talks about her.

I think Abdel never really gave up his taint and Bhaals influence was just sealed at the finale of ToB. If you do the quests, Viekang is alive and has some taint.
I theorize that Imoens taint was removed by the Solar (or she died eventually). So, when Bhaals influence returned, there where only two Bhaalspawn left, Abdel and Viekang. Since Abdel is an experienced veteran who overcame his influence before, he focused on Viekang who was more of a coward.

Bhaal instilled a murderous rage into Viekang and pushed him towards Baldurs Gate. There Viekang attacked Abdel and died. Since there was no Solar to block the taint this time, Bhaals essence was once again united and he overcame Abdel Adrian mental resistance - reforming himself fully.

That is basically my personal head-canon that bridges BG2 ToB and Murder in Baldurs Gate.

Also, when Dark Urge was announced I wondererd if that *is* CHARNAME, or rather what is left of them after Bhaal emerged and reformed. Only kept around for Bhaals amusement and as a revenge for blocking the taint for so long. ^^

My theory is that Durge is more of an energy source for Bhaal to help reconstruct himself. A nice little fountain of murderous intent and death to keep the blood pumping while his divine energy is collecting enough for him and his buddies to gain full godhood again.

I think Dark Urge could be new Kazgaroth, favorite minion of Bhaal.
Extremely powerful, bloodthirsty, intelligent and capable of changing races and shapes.
But Bhaal is still very weak and that's why even his favorite monster is still weak.

Right now he's stuck in the form of a normal humanoid and he doesn't remember what he is.
But his true nature is bubbling to the surface and trying to take control...

I like that! it is much more specific than 'energy source' and gives some nice flavor, and maybe even a transformation ability/ending.

At the same time, it would also explain why a Dark Urge can be any class, any race, and any gender.
But I think we deviates a bit from the topic of the post grin

Good point. Let's get back on topic.
IF Durge was an ancient minion of Bhaal, would that make a romance with the much younger Jaheira weird?

I am of the opinion that as long as both parties can fully consent, any age gap is fine.

So as long as neither is too young or mentally challenged, age is just a number that should be left to the couples discretion.
This goes double in a fantasy setting where different lifespans and age-modifying magics exist..

I have played it and I do not disagree..
But yeah, not a specialist on Hags, but I could have sworn that this was mentioned somewhere..

Then again, the Planescape setting is weird and full of things that would be impossible anywhere else.

There was at least one more in Neverwinter Night 2: Mask of betrayer.

There is more than one species of Hags, and most are still considered Fey.
Although it is VERY rare, even a Hag can love sincerely.

Nah. A hag's so called version of 'love' is always tainted. If one actually plays PST they would know this. A hag doesn't understand the purity if true. Any writer who tries to do so is lazy and diesnt understand what a hag actually is.

I never claimed otherwise.
I would actually say that hag love is VERY similar to obsession.
Although it is not pure selfless love, it is still love.

A romance with an actual Hag would definitely be VERY interesting.
Definitely original and an idea never seen before in any game.

Well, maybe with the exception of the game "Shag the Hag" biggrin
And I definitely don't recommend searching for that game.
The sight of Hag's naked body is something you won't forget.

A player having a romance with a hag has happened in a game. We're discussing that very game. It is possible, but if course it would take a skilled writer to put it off satisfactory.

lol, who is this edgy, kvothe-esque character who managed to win the tainted love of a hag?
