Well yeah, after watching the first few minutes of Swens interview I turned it off again.
Thanks for absolutely nothing in terms of release time of a european game, still fucking european players with the game coming online 19:00 on the 3rd. Accounting to that the f...ing Steam servers won't survive that go live once again, I probably won't be able to play until very well into the 4th.
That makes the release date for most players in Europe the 4th of August. Thanks for another hard and disappointing hit in the guts.
Maybe someone can post here if there's news about the release time on GoG, because thankfully those guys are not based on that Hellscape country I've learned to hate over the past two decades and thus could release earlier.
I'm very disappointed in Larian in this case. I really had hoped they'd take a strong stance for the fans and players on their own continent, but obviously they are not interested in that.
Thats kinda lame of you to speak in such tones, given the fact that the whole world got the game almost one month earlier. But I know, good things are forgotten, bad things are exaggerated and remembered, I know...

There's people with bad internet, as is basically EVERYWHERE in Germany. So there's that. Belgium is right next door and now? I'd be able to get the game faster driving to Larian and begging for the setup files on my external SSD.
It's not the general time that's annoying to me. It's the fact that once again good old America gets it in the morning, while Europe here it in the evening and thus partially won't be able to play on release day, effectively pushing release day one day up again.
And yes, I speak in such tones. I am disappointed in Larian and I have every right to be disappointed. You don't have to share my disappointment, but you sure as hell can't take it away from me.
Edit: Let's say we are talking the full 150GB for a download and my connection as well as the Steam servers allowing for my full speed. It would still take more than two hours in that case. In a Thursday. People have to work on Fridays on occasion. So effectively no playing after the download if the speed works perfectly and we all know it won't.
I feel your frustration ... or maybe its just mine, since they are same. But i dont think this is Larian misstake ... Steam have their own stupid rules, what can Larian do.
I still dont understand why cant we change Race for our hirelings. Lets us play Githyanki as racist as they trully are!
They wanted to release it in their morning, but Steam insisted on theirs, yes. Swen just confirmed that.
That's my last preorder from a european company that doesn't release earlier in GoG.

Fight harder for their fans would be my idea. But hey, we all have to be thankful for 28 days earlier than originally promised because they didn't want to get in direct competition with Starfield and Cyberpunk. Totally that release window was for us.
Okay, sorry, I understand your frustration. I live in Russia and I too happen to have a slow internet connection. But its just one day delay at worst! I feel you, I myself got some days off work to kickstart a playthrough, but being mad at circumstances won't help. USA could be privileged by chance or on purpose but both scenarios would make sense.
I ..do not really understand the issue with the release date of 19:00?
I know there a still school vacations (depending on where you are), but a of of people do have to work, so an afternoon release makes sense. And those that have free can probably play longer, I guess?
I mean, I can understand wanting it to release at early as possible, but 7 pm is not *that* bad - you make it sound like they are releasing at 11 pm or so..
Just start the download/update and then get your afternoon meal in and maybe a shower or so. Once you are back you should be ready to play until you go to sleep! =)

Of course America is privileged on purpose. Obviously Steam is not able, as a multinational operating company, to have support at least in every continent save Antarctica.
You know, I don't have any problem with you personally, right? I am just very very pissed right now.
It's definitely a huge disappointment for any EU player. I can only hope that GoG can release it earlier, as I bought the game on GoG anyway since Steam wouldn't let me. I doubt it though... hopefully we can at least preload, otherwise it seems August 4th it is.

Thanks again. Not.
This comes off as incredibly entitled.
No matter WHEN they choose to release, it would be really late or really early for someone. This is unavoidable and a result of them choosing to have a global release time, which is STILL vastly preferable to a staggered release where some people have to watch and risk spoilers while they can't even play the game yet.
Also, your tacit xenophobia doesn't make you cool or hipster, it just makes you come off as a dick.
"This woman has come in contact with Tokyo's manga. She is Unclean and would lead we righteous ones astray."

With my connection ... if i start downloading at 19:00 .... I probably will be able to play around 6:00 in the morning.

I never intended to come off cool or like a hipster, don't worry.
What makes me angry is that once again and by far not the first or the second time ever, european players can play later, even though the game was developed by Europeans in Europe, just because one monopolist company based in the US told them so.
I might be xenophobic in this regard, even though I usually am not. I'm very pissed and unreasonable in those cases, yes. I don't have a problem with any american citizen specifically, except maybe Gaben. I just hate that other countries or even whole continents don't seem to exist or at least have any real value when it comes to America. Be it politically (let's not go into detail here for both our peace of mind) or even in such small sectors as entertainment.
Look at it this way: What would americans say when a BIG Hollywood movie, created by american citizens and nearly 100% in America, would be released earlier in other countries? Think they'd be happy?
Edit: By the way, despite me being pissed and you thinking of me add a dick, I have, so far, no issue with you on a personal level. I know my behavior isn't the best currently. But I can be nice after the 5th of August or something. Until then? I'm done being happy and nice, sorry. Not a pleasant person to be around until then.

Oh man, thats so true! I also have a problem when my wi-fi adapter just becomes unplugged all of a sudden and I need to manually restart it. Thats why I can't sleep if I want to ensure such a huge game to download properly...
I too would've liked a more reasonable release time. And I admit I take delight in it the few cases when it's the USAians that has to wait. But eh, I'm not extremely bothered by this. Release time for digitally distributed games are rarely good so this is nothing new. Though maybe I'll indeed get lucky if there's a chance GOG drops it earlier as that's where I got it.

I have no proof for this, so this is 100% speculation from my side, BUT I get the feeling from past releases that Steam tells developers/publishers that they can't release earlier on other platforms than they do on steam. At least I can't remember a case where that would've been the case.
hmm, I'm trully sorry for your frustration. However I cant help but think of all those, how did you say it
"because thankfully those guys are not based on that Hellscape country I've learned to hate over the past two decades "
"It's the fact that once again good old America gets it in the morning,"
"Of course America is privileged on purpose."
I'll forget the rest,
Just thinking of all those fathers who didn't make it home, grandfathers who will never know there offspring, in this life anyway. You sir... well I wont even lower myself to your level.
As a 53 yr old MAN, I too have had many disappointments and NONE of them were because of a Fucking VIDEO GAME.
