Original Baldurs Gate 2 (non "enhanced" edition) on my Mac M1 via wine is extremely playable. I downloaded the original classic GOG version (before the EE edition replaced it!).
Have about 85 mods working on it. 40 companions (nearly all have their own quests) are available all with their own banter and crossmod banters and storyline banters/dialogues and romances. Over 100 extra quests, huge story-line enhancements, tons of new items, locations, spells enhancements, AI enhancements, more creature variety, UI enhancements etc....
My current BG2 game is way over 500 hours in length, and that's without the game having cinematic dialogues and turn base combat.
It is a extremely open ended game were you imagination can run wild for mods, and still looks pretty great. IE is so flexible and pretty easy to work with. Currently made a mod that adds portraits to nearly every single NPCs/Creatures in the game that have dialogue (over 700 unique portraits).
BG2 is basically like a growing book at this point. Very easy to mod in more storylines, dialogues and characters. Hence why its still so popular.
And just check out that verticality and gorgeous gritty beautiful color pallet when its cloudy/raining , really feels like your there:
