Exiling one of the companions is a big deal. I would hope if it's an option, the other companions have opinions on it and maybe question why and/or their approval goes up or down as you'd expect, e.g. SH would be happy to see Lae'zel booted.
I really doubt Larian making such a change. For some reason they think that giving NPCs more agency equals taking fun and agency from the player. Shadowheart was an insufferable ass in the first versions and they toned her down to please the player and make her more compliant. Lae'zel does nothing if you don't go to the creche and becomes your loyal pet follower basically.
Same here, if other companions have strong opinion about your decision - it is very likely to be seen as taking agency from the player. Which is kinda stupid but EA proved it to be the general approach.
