This is good to know that I was remembering a time limit wrong. (I swore I heard a timeline for it to complete from a halfling merchant in the grove. )
Anyway, it's good to know that I don't have to hamstring my characters so bad by not doing long rests. I was really worried that after a few days, (even if I avoided doing the things that are triggers) the ritual would complete anyway. So in EA, I was almost frantic to figure out how to rescue Halsin and take out the goblins despite having little to no rest and not being leveled up enough.
Ah yes, I agree.
All the triggers are location based - if you go to Waukeens rest but don't get involved, by the next Long rest it will be resolved without your help (in a bad way).
The Halsin quest doesn't resolve until you defeat the Druids/Tieflings or the Goblins or enter Halsin's prison to rescue him.
It's - I think - a better system than arbitrary time limits. I think Larian wants people to take their time and not feel too rushed. There is so much to explore in this crazy game.
