IMO Fighter - I found Eldritch Knight (Shocking Grasp, Burning Hands, Magic Missle) easier to wrap my mind around than Battlemaster.
But unless part of a multiplayer party, you are forced to learn how to use casters anyway.
But worry not - even if not using various Classes with reasonable effectiveness, you will plough through
Maybe it will take you more saves to pass several clashes, but you'll still push ahead
