Agreed. I adore the Divinity games, such as they are, but the inconsistent lore and everything is mildly upsetting, lol. If I'm passionate about a setting, I really want the lore to remain consistent for immersion.
It's something I'm getting increasingly frustrated by with the Dragon Age games, as well.
Tolkien, these game writers are not.
The DOS games are fun mechanically.
When it comes to worldbuilding and lore, Rivellon has one of the worst approaches in story-based RPG history. It's really really really really bad. LIKE BAAAAAAAAD. I have over 250 hours in DOS2 and I play the game because it's fun, but GODDAMN ITS LORE IS INCONSISTENT, SURFACE-LEVEL GARBAGE. I don't even know where to start fixing it. Maybe to start:
1. A single, consistent unified world map for all games with relevant settlements, cities, polities, subdivisions, and geographical features.
2. Make clear, permanent, and consistent the relationships between and origins of the following realms: Tartarus, Nemesis, Hall of Echoes, the Void, and Rivellon.
3. Have a unified history and clear hierarchy of powers therein. What makes an archdemon different from a regular demon? Presuming Chaos was cast down and demons have less source than their overworld counterparts, what is the source of demonic power that makes their deals so highly sought? How does magic work independent of source? If source is not the "source" of everything, what else is there? What is the history of the internal dynamics of the historic factions of Rivellon and its neighboring "realms?"
4. What makes places significant? What about people? Things? What's out there?
