Paladins' no longer have deities.... so the old school Paladin loosing their memory and keeping their powers would not work due to lore reasons. A Paladin's power is from their belief in their oath, if your memory is gone, then you genuinely would be unable to believe you broke your oath. As in my eyes at least, if you so blindly believe your actions are correct, you can not be an oathbreaker in 5th ed.

DO I THINK THIS IS BAD DESIGN CHOICE? Yes. Paladins have always had a deity for a reason. You also do not have domains for Paladins in 5th ed either which I found confusing since Paladins and clerics are almost the same thing. Paladin use a cleric spellbook for a reason (2nd edition and pathfinder)
