An idea for Larian.
Clearly unlikely to happen at this point but a really good way to generate interest for a game like this would be to release a demo that allows you to work on creating you character prior to release so it is all ready to go once the game launches. People who have made a character are more likely to want to use it and play the game if they're on the fence.
You could even tie the demo to a pre-order if you feel the need to increase sales.
Just a thought as the PS5 lacks the early access option so this could be a nice alternative.
