I haven’t read everything in this thread, but have you considered doing a bit of co-op with her? I know it would’ve been cool had my dad been interested in this type of stuff, so maybe she’ll appreciate trying a bit with you?

Hey all, got a question about game settings. My daughter is interested in playing BG3, but doesn't know the rules to DnD and prefers playing a RPG where she only controls her own character and just allows the companions to handle things themselves in combat unless she has to stop in and actually control them (think DragonAge).
So my question is, does anyone know if there is a setting, mod or way to put your companions on AutoCombat? I don't believe there is an actual setting that allows you to do this in options, but since enemies have to have a AI combat routine, it makes sense that such a setting is in the game somewhere. A mod would be great, but even a ini setting that allows this would be nice.
For me, I'm always in full control, so I don't need it. She doesn't want to play on story mode, just wants to enjoy the story and have the companions manage themselves. If nothing is out there, maybe someone with Mod skills could look into it if enough people seem to be interested.
Thanks! If your wondering, go to nexus mods and commission a modder to do it, your looking at somewhere between 500-800 dollars tops..... often some will do it pro-bono if you can convince them it will make them a lot of money on Paetreon or find someone who will do it out of empathy. Good luck

Good luck I will pretend for a sec you are not making a joke. Who in their right mind would pay $500 to commission some internet rando to make a product for them? Like everyone else reading these forum, I have a gazillion Skyrim and Fallout mods in my installs. I never have and never will pay even the thinnest of thin dimes for any of them. If it's a relatively easy to make mod, someone will do it.

If something is moddable, someone will mod it. EDIT: For those that wondered, she's 25. Active gamer, just new to the DnD world. She tried Pathfinder, didn't like it because it was too many characters to manage. That's why I asked.
As been pointed out, the game can take over characters in some situations. I have no idea how hard or easy it would be to do, but just asking to see if anyone knew of a method or mod. As far as playing co-op, we talked about that, but she feels she wants to experience the game in her own way. It's an option, but not one she's currently wanting to try. Sounds like she should just play solo (as in "one character"). People do it. And she would not be missing much (in my opinion) in terms of the companion NPC stories because they are all annoying jerks (in my opinion). Well, the ones we've met in EA are, anyway. I have done a solo warlock run on EA and it was a lot of fun. However, this requires a lot of meta knowledge of the game and the ruleset. I don’t think it is feasible for a new player, though it could be depending on how story mode is balanced. But I don’t think most players want to forego party interactions. That is a big part of the game.

That is a big part of the game. Yes, I personally would not want to do a solo run, but I have no problem controlling the companion NPCs. Plus I like at least the veneer of being able to pretend I am playing with other players (even though I don't like the personalities of the EA companions much). And to add to something the OP mentioned about his daughter not knowing D&D (so this is replying to the OP, not Warlocke), you don't need to know anything about D&D to play BG3. But, ultimately, in the category of "unasked for advice" (and we've already seen some), perhaps BG3 is not the game for your daughter.

Uploaded a mod here. Currently AI works when in combat only. They are a smidgeon more aggressive than I would like which will be the next thing I adjust but other than that, they work great. Really wish a feature like this would have been in the game from the start. https://www.nexusmods.com/baldursgate3/mods/705?tab=files
