I need some distraction until the game is released so here I go.

Would it be possible to multiclass companions? While it might not be optimized, it might allow people to use companions they like in ways that fit better their playstyle.

For example, maybe you need a rogue but don't want a vampire in the group, so you look for alternatives. Or maybe you want some companion to have more hit points and be able to fight in melee. Or you are a melee fighter and miss an spellcaster but Gale is not for you.

If it is allowed, would you multiclass someone?

I'm thinking that Karlach might benefit from some fighter levels. And maybe try to see if Wyll works better as a bard or a sorcerer. As for Gale, sometimes I don't really need another spellcaster, but his stats make it difficult to find another class that fits him. Any ideas?

Swen confirmed that all companions can be multiclassed or respec'd. It just won't affect their conversation tags.

I mean My Astarion is going to be multiclassing into Necromancer,

It is great that we can multiclass. Let's hope we can also modify the initial stats. And yes, Astarion should multiclass as a necromancer once he gets the book from the Thayan wizard. I would also try to multiclass Will as a bard (if I can't change his stat distribution) or fighter if I can. It fits better with the "blade of frontiers" concept. ^_^

I will likely give Shadowheart a few levels in rogue up to thief.

Karlach maybe a few levels of paladin up to oath of vengeance.

Minsc Barbarian with a few Ranger levels.

Mynthera, not sure what I will need.

I think we will be able to fully respec them with Withers, for a price…

Karlach is going barb 2 then paladin 6+ until she needs a level in the totem of the bear to keep frontlining.

My main is going to be a skill monkey, so SH and Gale will probably single class. Maybe Ranger 1 for SH so she has access to better weapons for her Dex build or maybe heavy armor and Str.

I like the idea of her and my main taking their 2nd level in ranger because they think they are going to have to survive the wilds after they crash land.

Two Healing Words per turn ... sounds juicy!

I'll go battle master with Shadowheart, WD Vlaakith Cleric with Lae'zel, may be a little sorcerer with Gale for metamagic, Astarion could get a little barbarian or wizard treatment depending on the subclass I choose. Karlach I am not sure, Wyll as well. My MC will be a ranger(6)/wiz(6) multiclass.

In PnP, getting two Bonus Actions a round would probably be too powerful. I think it is in BG3, If PnP Thieves got that, it would arguably be the best rogue sub-class instead of one of the worst.

Yeah, so Cleric 8, Thief 3 for the bonus bonus action and Fighter 2 for Action Surge gives you a truckload of options at any given time.

You may want to go with Cleric 7

Gale could multiclass into Fiendlock since it works narratively if you refused to feed him artifacts.
