I expect a last minute crisis at this stage to be completely unrelated to the game code. The game has "gone gold" as of several weeks ago. I'd put my money on some infrastructural issue with getting the downloads ready for Steam/GOG, or updates to marketing images, etc.
The bear actor escaped and is currently wreaking havoc across Larian HQ, and it is
very horny. The devs are currently hiding in the air ducts.
