I dont ...
Most names of places, spells and people sounds horrible in our language ... not many people play with words carefull enough to make it sound interesting. xD
For me the issue with my localisation is that I do not know 5ed in Polish (and my grasp of DnD in general is better in English too), so I raked my brains backtranslating things. Is Czarownik a Sorcerer or a Warlock, for instance?

Oh yes, some words are funny. laugh

We have problem with Warlock.
Warlock is often translated as "Černokněžník" wich translateed back would mean Dark Priest.

BTW ...
@JandK
Here is another translation problem i just realized in other threat.
Baldur's Gate is translated to Czech as either "Baldurova Brána" or "Brána Balduru" ... depending on person who is translating it.

The problem is, that either means something else in Czech.
Baldurova Brána - Would mean a gate that belongs to someone named Baldur ...
Brána Balduru - Would mean a gate that leads into something named Baldur ...

> Wich sounds wrong, but its very often used even in co-operation with people who claim to work with "official translation of DnD" ... even tho as far as i know, there never was any ... so its more like "most widely spread translation, rather than actually official". laugh

We have "czarnoksiężnik" too :P
Czarownik has neutral connotations, but the above would invariably be evil. The female form - czarownica, is always evil and is synonymous with "hag".
Yet another (neutral) term - czarodziej(ka).
I think that "Zaklinacz" is Sorcerer.
Wrota Baldura. The translation (and dubbing) of BG1 was very, very good.
BTW - is "tatinek" for "daddy" correct? In Poland it is widely believed that in Czech dubbing Darth Vader said to Luke: "Ja sem tvoj tatinek."
I checked and I know that he actually said "Ja sem tvoj otec" - but I'm curious about "tatinek ...

In BG3 Wizard = Czarodziej, Sorcerer = Czarownik. Warlock might as well be "Czarnoksiężnik", though all three at too close for my taste.

I think there are a lot of jokes in Poland of "how is X in Czech" that are completely made up. There are some funny instances (I was very amused by "koupelna"), but I think most of them are bad, maybe a bit racist dad jokes.

In BG3:
Mag
Zaklinacz
Czarownik

The first is clear - but as to the other two I never know which is which.
When I was more interested in DnD there were no Warlocks and Sorcerers had just been introduced.

"Tatinek" is something we call "zdrobnělina" ...
That means making word feel as if it describes something smaller, cuter, less threatening, or more dear to you. I doubt anyone would use that in context with Vader. laugh

Oficial (formal you can say) version of this word is "otec" ... regulary used version is "táta" ... and "zdrobnělina" is "tatínek". smile

What about it? O_o
You made me curious.

As for spellcasters ...
We also have words for them ... Čaroděj, Mág, Kouzelník, Eskamotér, Kejklíř (this one feels closer to Arcane Trickster, but its sometimes used aswell) ...
There is enough words to use ... problem is, that they all mean the same, there is no linguistic difference between them in Czech. frown

Thanks!
"Ojciec" versus "tata" - same in Polish. Hence "tatínek" was used for comedy effect, obviously.
EOT as not to derail further laugh

We have done the Czech translation. And for free, we put it out. And one of the hosts of one of our game shows (who has friends in the translation group that is supposed to do the "official" translation (it's in quotes because if it was official it would come out on release)) says we're violating the EULA, I've read it several times and I can't find what we're violating it with. And when we ask him for a direct excerpt, he tells us to find it ourselves. I've re-read the EULA and it doesn't look to me like we're violating anything. Is anyone here more observant? Who can find me anything we might be violating? Thank you

Keep demanding they cite the specific part of the EULA you are violating and how what you have done is a violation of it.

Only when they demonstrate you are committing ILLEGAL activity and that they are taking LEGAL ACTION that has been sent to you should you be even remotely concerned.

EDIT TO ADD:
For any claims they make, demand documentation backing it up.
