Hello, I have purposely not looked up any information about this game up until a few days ago. I know that the max party size is 4. So is it like DOS2 where you have the leave 2 party members behind on the island or can I bring all the origin characters with me throughout the game?

If you kill them, they die. If you annoy them, they leave. If you don't recruit them, they don't follow you.

That's more or less it.

Surplus party members will just hang out at camp and will move with the camp as far as I am aware. I don't believe you have to leave anyone behind.

your max party size is actually 9 because you can have 4 pets and one special case which is sort of a pet 'of a pet

it was going to be like Dos2 but people called them out and Larian moved to a more 2+2 senario, for example Shadowheart and gith girl don't get on and word is Wyll will take issue with your new demonhearted GF but according to untested rumor you can still keep them both happy if you play your cards just right

or of course just kill / sell them as slaves or even walk past leaving them to their fates

You can only actively control your character and 3 companion, but everyone else you recruit stays at the camp and you can swap them in and out.

If you're not in combat you can usually fast travel back to camp at any time to swap out active party members. So yes, you can probably bring all the Origin companions with you throughout the entire game.

Since there are 6 origin characters (assuming Karlach is an origin character), don't see how that's possible, even if you play as an origin. Unless I am missing something.

No, I didn't miss anything. We have different definitions of "bring them with you throughout the entire game."
