There are tons of dialog checks that are based on other skills, as well as your race, class, and background. Yep, this. Certainly there are things that charisma checks can get you that other skills can't, but then there are things those skills can get you that charisma can't. Including barbarian-specific checks that provide unique solutions to some problems. Personally, I tend to use my player character as a face to get their unique dialogue and don't worry about charisma. And while higher charisma might give you better prices at merchants, it's not like money is so scarce that's worth speccing your party around. Just go for whatever you think you'll find most fun! Thanks great advice..I am following my heart and not going with 'meta comps', etc ![[Linked Image from i.gifer.com]](https://i.gifer.com/UJr.gif)

Let me rephrase what I said in light of the recent forum meta here:
You don’t need to have a high value for any particular stat at all. You can get through the game just fine with a unique play through at that. BUT it would be nice to have a diverse ability spread across your party, that is, not having EVERYONE based around 1-2 attributes. For example, I wouldn’t want to miss out on perception checks because I refused to put anyone’s points into Wisdom. Fundamentally, however, you can get through the game fine with whatever composition you want, even 4 fighters with maxed out STR and CON while dumping WIS and CHA.

And therein is one of the issues with this game, can party members be used for dialogue skill checks? If they can then it doesn't matter what your player character has. Things like perception, arcana, lore, religion, your party members can handle while in the the wilderness. During conversations, does the game still only use the player characters skills / stats?

In conversation, the skills of the person who initiates the conversation are used. But you can have one of your party initiate most conversations and act as the face if that's what you want. (Not camp conversations, though, and I'm sure there are other exceptions.)
