GENERAL INFORMATION

What is Baldur’s Gate 3?
Baldur’s Gate 3 is a story-rich, party-based RPG set in the universe of Dungeons & Dragons where your choices shape a tale of fellowship & betrayal, survival & sacrifice, and the lure of absolute power.

Baldur’s Gate 3 was released August 3 2023 for PC, September 6 2023 for PS5, September 22 2023 for macOS and December 12 2023 for Xbox Series X|S.

Cross-saves are available between these platforms, and cross-play will be available with Patch 8!

Do I need to have played Baldur’s Gate 1 & 2 to be able to enjoy Baldur’s Gate 3?
Baldur’s Gate 3 is a new adventure set in the Forgotten Realms and focuses on new characters. You’ll see some familiar places and faces if you’ve played Baldur’s Gate 1 & 2, but you don’t need to have played them to enjoy Baldur’s Gate 3.

Can I use a controller?
Baldur’s Gate 3 has full controller support on PC.

What languages is Baldur’s Gate 3 available in?
Baldur’s Gate 3 is available in 13 subtitled languages: English, French, German, Polish, Russian, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Spanish, Spanish (Latin America), Turkish, Portuguese-Brazil, Italian, and Ukrainian.

What are the system requirements for Windows and Mac?

How long was Baldur’s Gate 3 in development?
A small team first started working on story and game design in late 2016. In January 2017 we received the official go from Wizards of the Coast in Seattle, while we were in the middle of Divinity: Original Sin 2's Early Access period. The team grew slowly before the whole team was briefed later in 2017 after the full release of DOS2 that September.

After a period of Early Access, Baldur’s Gate 3 was released August 3 2023!

How do I play Baldur’s Gate 3 through GeForce NOW?

MAC SPECIFIC QUESTIONS

Does the macOS version support eGPU?
Yes it does.

I'm interested in what's under the hood. What kind of MacOS port is this?
The macOS build of Baldur's Gate 3 does not use MoltenVK: it uses Metal 2.3. The Metal renderer is completely standalone. There is no Windows API code running, It's fully compiled by XCode 11.5.

LARIAN ACCOUNT AND SENDING INFO

What is a Larian Account and what are the benefits of signing up?
A Larian Studios account gives you access to our online services, including Cross-Save, as well as exclusive content, such as Twitch Drops.

Steamers can connect their account to Twitch to enable the Baldur’s Gate 3 Twitch extension ( https://dashboard.twitch.tv/extensions/sf4o3dj6bllwt1y4ndq2yaj5d9woh2 ) on their channel. Through the Twitch extension, your audience can check your inventory, pull up your character sheet, and even have a say in the choices you make in-game!

As of Patch 8, it will also allow you to connect with friends to join in cross-play campaigns across platforms.

My Larian Account services are not working in-game. What should I do?
The following needs to happen for you to be logged into the services:
Your platform account needs to be linked to your current Larian Account.
You need to launch the game from the linked platform Account (Steam, GOG currently)
If you are launching the game manually without any platform client running, the services will not activate.

What are you collecting when I submit information and does it contain any personal information?
We gather data that helps us improve the game. How much gold do you have, when do you level up, where do you die, when do you equip a different weapon. We don't know your name, email address, IP address, your hardware details, or your Steam name, and we don't know your location. We are only interested in what goes on in the game. When you crash and you report it, only the crash dump is included. There is a text field where you can fill in details and you are responsible for what you fill in.

I don’t want to send gameplay data.
In the Larian Launcher, before starting the game, please click on the settings cog in the bottom left in the next screen there is a check box at the top that says “Send Stats” when you uncheck this box and save changes, you will no longer send us data.

BG3 GAME CONTENT INFORMATION

What is an Origin character?
Origins are playable heroes, each with their own stories, desires, and attitudes towards the world around you. Whether you choose to experience the story of Baldur’s Gate 3 through an Origin’s perspective or recruit them to journey alongside you as companions, your choices as a player have a huge impact on the way their stories unfold.

If recruited as companions, their previous experiences and attitudes will influence their opinion about what you should do and how you should behave. Everything that you do or say might influence the course of your relationship with them, and determine whether you'll become friends, lovers, rivals, or bitter enemies.

You can choose who and how many of the companions (up to three) join you in your adventures. Speak to a companion at camp and you’ll have the option to dismiss them from your party, or request someone else joins you!

What Origin Characters are available to play/recruit?
The Origin Characters are: Astarion, Gale, Lae’zel, Shadowheart, Karlach, Wyll and The Dark Urge.

Unlike Baldur’s Gate 3’s other playable protagonists, the Dark Urge is a fully customisable character: from your class and species, to your gender and overall appearance, and even your name. The Dark Urge is not recruitable when not played.

Can I change the class of the Origin characters when I recruit them?
Yes! In Baldur’s Gate 3, you have the freedom to respec not only your chosen protagonist’s class but also that of your playable companions and pre-authored Origin characters.

Bear in mind that some characters' class is closely intertwined with their story, and respeccing them will not change this.

Can I create a custom character?
Yes, you can create a custom character.

If you create a custom character, you’ll have the freedom to define your race, class and appearance, and you'll still find yourself embedded in the story of Baldur's Gate 3 through personal connections to the events that unfold.

What is the level cap in the game?
Level 12

What Races and Classes are available in the game?

What difficulty options are available?
As well as the default Balanced mode, you will be able to play the game in Explorer Mode, Tactician Mode, Custom Mode, and Honour Mode.

In Explorer mode, combat has been made more forgiving so players can fully immerse themselves in the narrative layer of this adventure. In this mode, friendly NPCs are harder to kill, trader prices are at a 20 percent discount, and you'll begin the game with a +2 starting proficiency bonus.

Tactician mode, then, is where to test your mettle. In this mode, enemy lethality is cranked up to Brutal, ensuring that enemy AI are stronger, will prioritise squishier targets with low AC, and will seize opportunities to go in for the kill. Additionally, many adjustments have been made to the fights themselves specifically for Tactician mode, with certain enemies receiving additional support through reinforcements, spells, or consumable items.

Honour mode ups the intensity and not only makes the game more difficult in and out of combat, but also introduces new tweaks to all of Baldur's Gate 3’s boss-fights, with a new Legendary Action system designed to catch players off-guard and increase the challenge. Now, bosses can perform new actions, adding twists and turns to all major fights throughout the game.

Custom mode is a game mode that allows you to pick and choose the type of experience best for you. With many options to pick from, a few favourites include the option to hide the required roll to succeed dice checks, which gives a more realistic D&D experience, as well as the ability to hide enemy HP in battle, again more closely simulating the tabletop style. Other options in Custom Mode include Short Rests fully healing the party, as well as disabling Death Saving Throws, or even the ability to hide failed Perception Checks, which means you’ll never know there was even a roll to begin with!

Is there Mod Support and are mods available on consoles?
Yes! You will be able to find a “Mods” option on the main menu that will take you to our in-game mod manager, where you will be able to subscribe to community-made mods and automatically apply them to your game.

Some of these mods are also available for console players, with more added regularly.

Can I Pet The Dog? (Important)
There are multiple dogs in the game and you will be able to pet some of them!

MULTIPLAYER CONTENT INFORMATION

Is there multiplayer?
Yes, there is 4 player online multiplayer. In 4 player online multiplayer, players can either start a multiplayer journey together and both create their own custom character or join a friend’s single player game during the adventure. Split-screen co-op is also available.

Is there Cross-Play?
Cross-play between PC, macOS, PS5 and Xbox is coming with Patch 8!

STREAMING

How can I enable the Twitch integration for my stream?
You can install the Twitch extension directly via Twitch. Here is a direct link to the download: https://dashboard.twitch.tv/extensions/sf4o3dj6bllwt1y4ndq2yaj5d9woh2. Alternatively, you can find the extension by going to your creator dashboard, clicking on the extension menu on the left and either direct search for Baldur’s Gate 3, or click on “extensions for games”. If you connect your Larian account to Twitch, it will automatically enable Baldur’s Gate 3 extension on your channel and link it to the game. This way, your audience can interact with you directly on the choices you make in the game!

Baldur’s Gate 3 contains Mature content, is there an option to customise this content for streaming?
You can customise your streaming experience so that when you hit ‘go live’, your stream isn’t interrupted by a bear, swear, or lack of underwear. Baldur’s Gate 3 has 3 different levels of streamer-friendly customisation. You can disable nudity, and explicit content separately (or together). You’ll be able to stream Baldur’s Gate 3 without any problems, regardless of how you play, thanks to these options.

LORE INFORMATION

Is Baldur’s Gate 3 the sequel to Baldur's Gate 1 and 2?
Yes. The story takes place 100 years after the events in Baldur’s Gate 2 and shortly after the events of Descent into Avernus, and it is connected to previous games in meaningful ways.

How is the storyline linked to D&D?
Baldur’s Gate 3 takes place right after the events of Descent into Avernus. The holy city of Elturel disappeared from the Forgotten Realms and descended into Avernus, the first layer of the Nine Hells. In our canon, it was saved by a party of heroes. The game is based on the 5th edition ruleset of D&D and was created closely together with Wizards of the Coast.
