First thing i noticed is that ability scores bonuses are broken for mountain dwarf and half elves. If there trying to apply the Tasha's cauldron type rules for selectable stat bonuses then they are either broken or nerfed. They gave every race a +2 /+1 ability score bonus , even races that are not supposed to work that way. Half Elves are supposed to have it as +2 /+1 /+1 for ability score bonuses. Mountain dwarf gets a +2 /+2 to ability score bonuses. If they intended it that way then the should just go ahead and remove them entirely from race selection screen, because they are worthless crap like that, and takes away the point of choosing those races/ subrace as a choice in the first place. D&D isn't supposed to be perfectly balanced.

Shield Dwarfs get medium armor proficiency. Humans get light armor proficiency, shield proficiency, polearm proficiency, +25% carry weight, and an additional skill. Half Elves get light armor proficiency, shield proficiency, and polearm proficiency.
Which means that for a caster class, those free armor proficiencies could become rather enticing. Of course, they're of no help whatsoever if you're looking to do a martial character because it won't stack in any way with class bonuses. A Shield Dwarf fighter is objectively worse than a Hill Dwarf fighter. A Wood Elf fighter is objectively superior to a Wood Half-Elf fighter,

Yep Larian pulled a last minute change on this one, they used to have the default ruling from the PHB, all throughout EA (3 years) up untill a month ago.... Very regrettable. Give it a couple of weeks and there will be a mod for it Im sure. Its been discussed quite a bit on the forum.
Personally I was planning on Human or Dwarf Paladin. Did a Half Orc Barb instead due to the Racial ability bonuses change. Hope they add PHB rules as an option at least.
PS: Other than that and the lack of deity choice for Paladins, Im enjoying the heck out of this game. Im not rushing act 1 though, even though I had 240 hrs in EA XD. Thankfully, there are enough new stuff in act 1 to keep it interesting nonetheless.
"They say he who smelt it dealt it." Sooo technically... this burnt corpse is your fault officer."

I only now just got through the goblin camp. My save is the night after . While there are things that are not true to D&D in game that is worse off, there is also stuff in game that are changes that is better then in D&D. So its a tradeoff. Like I can see a strength build monk with tavern brawler feat being exceptionally strong... literally. Though the feat should have worked on flurry of blows too, and at the moment the modifier doesn't apply to flurry of blows. I wonder if it would apply if you had dual wielder with tavern brawler if it would then work properly.
