I agree with the sentiment here.

BG3 is magnificent in many ways. However, some small issues/ exclusions sometimes cause discomfort in the final experience literally mirroring the Hans Christian Anderson's fairy tale, 'The Princess and the Pea'. No one is at fault here, neither Larian nor the player. This game is very large in scope and hints at tremendous depths to be explored. This invariably causes one to turn up one's aesthetic sensibilities up to the proverbial 'eleven' in order to pick up the wonders inherent to the experience in all its grandeur, thereby also making it relatively easier to pick up aberrations/ errors/ problems that one would have forgiven/ not noticed otherwise. The game is as close to a modern CRPG masterpiece, hence our expectations are dialed up because Larian has proven themselves time and time again to actually care about their product and the players. If it were cookie cutter cash grab by the some of the titans (that shall remained unnamed) from the AAA industry, we would barely have cared because we have been conditioned as gamers to accept janky and sub-par products from them with no recourse.

TL;DR: Yes, one should be able to toggle walk/ run short distances and if I may, even swim short distances as well (especially if the Athletics skill has been checked). However I must state this is a nice to have, if Larian can implement it, and I will send all my love to the studio and its team, regardless.
