As the recent forum problems have torn the original thread asunder, I shall bring it back from the Outer Planes.

Ok, so as you may or may not know Dragonborn is the only race NOT selectable for the Guardian you can create in the beginning. I've read it here and on Reddit as well that many were surprised to see that and I want to know/discuss what you all think. I'm still not quite sure what to make of it as I at first planned to use a Dragonborn as Guardian as well, so I was stuck in character creation for a good 20 minutes before deciding what to do instead crazy

It also looks like on Reddit u/AzraelSoulHunter has also already asked whether this is intentional or not, and it seems to be intentional. So with a bug or an oversight being highly unprobable, we could start with some theorizing about an explanation.

This will quickly get very Spoiler-rich so think twice before reading on! I've just reached the end of the second Act so I'll go with what I learned there:

So we meet the Guardian in the flesh at the very end of Act II, they are revealed to be an Mindflayer, one who has been an adventurer in Baldur's Gate some time ago. I've read theories that this was before Dragonborn came to Faerűn beacause of the Spellplague (do correct me if I got that wrong) and thus the Guardian couldn't be a Dragonborn. Now I don't know the real time frame of the Emperor's story so I don't know how much sense this makes. As it seems that our companions also get visited by "Dream Visitors", I could also assume that the Emperor can appear however he wants. Maybe he doesn't like Dragonborn in particular? grin

That said I don't exactly see how the story explains the missing race so far. Maybe I'll/we'll learn more as the story goes on. But going from that information I still don't see a real reason to exclude Dragonborn.

Anyway, thanks for reading my rambling and I'm interested in what you guys think. For now my suggestion would be to just add them in, but this may be subject to change. But only maybe! smile
