I want to play and end the game with a fully autonomous, free, and healthy mind and body. Will not using the tadpole powers or eating any tadpoles help me in this effort?

Even that doesn't give you a bad ending or turn you into a mindflayer. There's two varieties: one is merely a special tadpole which gives op powers. The other is choosing to evolve in the prelude to the ending. You can just not do that
Oh. Also, the Dark Urge can take control and be the big bad ruler of everything without turning into a mindflayer. Tav can't do that, I don't think so. It's complex to achieve, though. Honestly, being a mindflayer isn't even portrayed as bad so much as lonely.
