So, I decided to not put anymore tadpoles in my brain, because that's kind of weird, especially for my righteous paladin, and only one of them giving us so much trouble already so why make it worst. But I wonder if the fact that I'm not doing that going to have any actual affect on the game whatsoever? Because, everybody so far seem to act like I actively using tadpoles powers, and the quest, on eating the first one, is still active at the end of the second act, where I am, and I'm starting to think that it is doesn't really have a difference if I eat them or no, because you kind of have to, for the plot, and I'm only just missing out on the illithid tree for no reason.

Do you think it is how it is? Can someone, maybe, confirm, with no big spoilers, if its matters or not?

You’ve got to be kidding me. I’ve been avoiding the tadpole powers and the tadpoles for NOTHING???

I'm towards the end of Act 1, so there may be story consequences I haven't seen yet.

But I have eaten one more tadpole and it upset my companions a fair amount!

Yea, I mean, my companions told me a couple of times, like, "woow these new powers are so cool", but we don't even try them out or anything. And nobody reacting on the fact that you not doing it. Maybe its just a classic blooper, and there will be something later on, or at the end, but it would be really upsetting if the game don't have anything for that route

I highly suspect there will be story consequences for it. it would be so messed up if there were none at all.
Like i called larian out on some other rather lazy choices. but for this. that would really take the cake.

Ok, no spoilers answer, hmmm...ok how about this - Anyone who would put alien organisms in their own head isn't using their brain anyway...so even IF they became a Mindflayer - nothing of value would have been lost.

Ahahaha!

The only thing I can say for sure is that if you actively use tadpoles, you will be offered to go further and gain even more power in exchange for becoming a Mind Flayer. But this can be abandoned at a certain stage.

If you completely ignore the tadpoles - I do not know.

I never (ever) used a tad to mind control, never ate one of extra pods, and tentacle dude from a prism still said i need to transform further and gave me a frozen super-duper pod to do so.

never used it, have no intention to.

act 3, never had ANY consequences to not eating tads.

Seems like exactly what I predicted. You get huge benefits from using (and now eating) the tadpoles but squat from refusing to do so, which is utterly lousy game design.

Yeah. Essentially

The tadpoles in your brain ALL wither and disappear. It doesn't matter if you had 1 or 99. This is caused by the last boss's death with no particular logical explanation. I mean, all mindflayers nearby were in excruciating pain, so maybe they were legitimately killed by the psyonic blast. That just doesn't explain why the withered husks in your skull don't kill you, or the sudden pressure difference. I guess being revived by a cleric after dying wasn't epic enough?

"The price for power" exists very much in various companion quests, but Larian killed the narrative of their own main story. This feels like a cowardly move. The one piece of good news is that you can fully redeem the dark urge. Free yourself of your shackles. You can also have a bad ending if you do good and play your cards wrong.

The difference in actions is somewhat arbitrary. Felt like an odd play on "learned helplessness", which like stockholm syndrome is heavily criticised in modern understanding. The result is a pseudo-intellectual flavour. I'm not sure it appeals to anyone. It's weird they went through on consequences with the dark urge and ONLY the dark urge who tried to be good.

Alright Silver I’ve made the mistake of reading your spoilers before, so just tell it to me straight as yes or no:

I want to play and end the game with a fully autonomous, free, and healthy mind and body. Will not using the tadpole powers or eating any tadpoles help me in this effort?

As I understand it, the point of no return is consent to "partial cerebromorphosis", and the rest of the abilities do not matter

Even that doesn't give you a bad ending or turn you into a mindflayer. There's two varieties: one is merely a special tadpole which gives op powers. The other is choosing to evolve in the prelude to the ending. You can just not do that

Oh. Also, the Dark Urge can take control and be the big bad ruler of everything without turning into a mindflayer. Tav can't do that, I don't think so. It's complex to achieve, though. Honestly, being a mindflayer isn't even portrayed as bad so much as lonely.

No, it's amazing game design. Behaving with Wisdom and from a desire to do good is undermined if a reward is expected. The standard has always been "Be a goody goody and the game will be easier because you will become super powerful"

Larian turned that nonsense on its head by saying "Look, the path of goodness and Wisdom is a hard one, you are giving up power to keep yourself whole, few have the strength to walk this path"

And yeah, I am walking that path right now. On tactician. No shoving, no illithid powers, no evil bargains. It's really not a problem - you are easily powerful enough to take on any challenges.

Good used to be a path you ambled down because it was the path of least resistance. Now it's a mountain you climb to reach a summit. Goddamn brilliant.

However, some endings are much harder to achieve than others. One has a DC 99 check after two more difficult checks. If you don't know what you're doing, some endings CONSIDERABLY increase the risk of dying. It's not all sunshine. Savescummers are just not going to be harmed by that. The rolls you have to pass aren't necessarily charisma at least, but of your choice.

No... Just no. This sounds like a VERY extreme cope to me. Because from what I read here it makes no damn difference if you do something "evil" or not and is in fact not evil in the first place and shoving more tadpoles into your head makes NO difference. Correct me if I'm wrong on that one. That is disappointing honestly.
