Larian Studios Forums Baldur's Gate III Baldur's Gate III - Technical & Gameplay Problems Map and Minimap black

The Map/Minimap are all black. Only the party members and waypoints display. Issue since Aug 3. Hotpatch #2 did not fix this issue.

While party markers and quest waypoint markers are available to be seen, it's all on a pitch black map (and minimap) that doesn't load on any setting.
Basic trouble shooting steps were taken.
Verified files via Steam.
Attempted to adjust graphics from ultra to lower settings.
Attempted different displays and display settings (Full screen, windowless border, etc)
Submitted a bug report:

Received the following reply.
"Thank you for your report, this issue is known and should be fixed in a future update."

No further reply from Tech support since patch 2 released.

Would love to know if anyone has found a workaround in the meantime?

They didn't fix it in hotfix 3, although they promised to fix it in the next update! So many people are suffering from this and the game experience is broken: https://www.reddit.com/r/BaldursGate3/comments/15i2sit/map_and_minimap_completely_black/

Some people did have results with installing Windows completely new (not gonna do that) or buying another graphics card (not gonna do that either).

I hope a hotfix 4 will come for that problem; until then, I use online maps on a second monitor and try not to be spoiled too much. Even so, I almost missed a house in Act 2 and a boss in it because I thought I was in every house before ^^

hotfix 4 did not fix it btw. (in the time it was up i tried)

also no fix in patch 1. for those coming from google.

I also have this issue, the game is unplayable as it is.

Actually with patch 2 i ve been able to load the Vulkan version and map come to the screen.
Win 7 gtx 1070

vulcan does not work for me. so no solution.

others had vulcan working with patch 1 or hotfix 4 but with barely playable performance.

so we still would appreciate a solution.

This is gamebreaking, what the hell are you waiting for, Larian?

I have the exact same issue. I have a quite old PC, so my specs are very low, but everything else works perfectly fine. (NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780 Ti, Win10)

At the beginning, I thought it was on purpose, but even after escaping the alien ship, the map stayed black. Unfortunately, this issue makes the game unplayable. I've played for more than 2 hours, so I can't even return it on Steam to get my money back. I just really hope it's going to get fixed somehow and soon.

So, where are we at on the blank/black map and mini-map, for those of us whose older graphics cards can't use the latest & greatest drivers? It seems incongruous that my rig can run just fine for complicated VFX battles, but can't display the *)*&(#!! maps at all?

Why in (insert Deity)'s name would it take more graphical sophistication to display a rather simple map, than render full battles?

I have the same issue on PS5, so definitely not driver issues...

I and many others are still having this problem. In the Reddit thread above, people are getting really angry.
I haven't even played the game because doing so without an in-game map sucks.

I'm really disappointed because I was so hyped about this game, but it's been so long now that I no longer care.

They didn't fix it patch 4, which is a shame.

For some reason, Larian stubbornly ignores this problem of some players. At the very least, they would say that don't expect any fixes and that they won't do it, but there are no messages about this anywhere.

Some hours till March 2024 and still no fix. 7 Months old Bug....
