Hello Folks, I've tried to start right this game right away in multiplayer, but found it not playable due to constant crashing of the game. The error DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_REMOVED is displayed in the crash report.
The crashes happened in the coop lobby when making creating my character as well as ingame, mostly in dialogues, cut scenes and menues, but probalby also outside of it.
Prior to launching the game, I had my graphics card driver updated, as the game promted me to do. I run it on Direct X 11. Vulcan didn't work for me, maybe is not supportet from my card. Turning down the video settings to medium and some other experminents didn't help.
Googled a bit and tried a few things from making sure the graphics driver was installed real clean to deleting game properties (even though I didn't play early access) and verifying the data. Currently I've just the drive installed, not the graphics software, but didn't make a difference before.
For the multiplayer purpose, I'm running Discord, which curiously will crash along with the game.
System: Windows 10 64 Bit (up to date) Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-7700K CPU @ 4.20GHz AMD Radeon (TM) RX 480 Graphics, Driver V. 31.0.21023.2010 (Date 20.07.2023) 2x8GB = 16,0 GB RAM (did an hourlong memory test, passed 2 times) Game directory in Crucial SSD 487 GB (222 still free)
Ideas and help welcome! My mate who's got rather minumum settings as well and runs the game on a hard disc rather than an SSD had a crash too, but hat it running rather stable since. For me it's currently not playable though. Will test single player w/o any other programs running in the backtround tomorrow.
Thanks in advance.

Oh, so the post actually hit. wasn't sure since forum timed out. Now, I report back on single player experience without any programs running in the background, medium graphics settings, started w/o steam directly the DX11 exe as admin from the /bin folder: It lasted until the Cutscene with Shadowheart coming out of the pod, then crashed again. Error Details: ![[Linked Image from s20.directupload.net]](https://s20.directupload.net/images/230806/4rsodume.jpg) Direct X is latest version, or so the check tells me. Same issue with vulkan in the first bossfight on lowest settings. ![[Linked Image from s20.directupload.net]](https://s20.directupload.net/images/230806/nw6iohbp.jpg)

update: The following setting recommended in the troubleshooting guide led to a stable hourlong sp session on low graphics: Try right clicking the executable and selecting Properties. Then switch to the Compatibility tab and check off the 'Override high DPI scaling behavior' option (set it to Application). Run as administrator and disable fullscreen optimization and set a Win 7 or 8 compatibility mode. In Windows 7, check off the option to 'Disable display scaling on high DPI settings', then disable desktop composition and run as administrator. https://larian.com/support/faqs/crashes-during-gameplay-pc_61Looks like I'm able to play. Yet to be tested in multiplayer and with Discord running.

It doesn't fix everything. Just crashed with the same error during level up spell choice. But given I was running discord and alt tabbing out to check stuff in the browser, there may have been some extra load. Anyway, hope I get a few more stable hours and don't forget to save riciculusly often.

I am getting the same problem "The game has encountered an unrecoverable DirectX error and will shut down". This happens 100% of the time after just few minutes of play. I'm not running any recording software, my windows is updated, my graphics driver is updated, and no other games I have played do this. It also happens using Vulkan.

I'm getting the crash sometimes but only when Gale uses Gaseous Form, Either when getting in to it or out from it. Not every time but arount 60% of the times. I never get the crashes elsewhere. Also, it seems that if I use that spel again at the exact same position (from a save and not moved from the spot) it crashes over and over, but if I just move Gale a couple of meters it works, so it seems it has to do with the environment graphics.
I'm using Vulcan, havent tried DX11.

I recommend checking all the tips that the larian support gives. For me, with the direct start of the DX exe out of the bin folder, with the proper settings, it made the game way more stable. It still crashes some time or the other, mostly in dialogues, but with enough savegames, I can still enjoy. Without any settings, i had just crashes every 10 min. So if your graphics card is not the best or near the minimum requirements, I recommend to shut down all other programs running in the background, lower graphics and try the Win7 compatibility mode and stuff. https://larian.com/support/faqs/crashes-during-gameplay-pc_61

Are any of y'all using any of the settings in the NVIDIA control panel? I know that there are post around the web that recommend tweaking these, but it's probably never a good idea to "override the application"

I'm having very similar issues, but I don't see the error box that pops up before it instantly closes. Running on maxed out settings, the game lasts anywhere from 5-10 minutes before crashing to the reporter. Dropping everything to low lets me play for about 1-2 hours, but I still get the same crash.
I'm running on a 4080/7800x3d. Temps look completely normal and other games work fine. No custom settings in the NVCP.
Edit: Also note that I was able to play at launch for about 10 hours just fine without any crashes. The crashes began after hotfix 2.

Update: I'm able to play for about 2 hours if I limit my FPS to 60. It's not ideal but it's something.

This game is an extremely buggy disgusting mess! I basically can't even get off the nautiloid sometimes, I can't even get through character creation I have tried pretty much everything, and it's getting me stressed the hell out I spent three years in Early Access, and the game never effing crashed on me at all! Now I can't even play this game because it doesn't want to be stable and it is pissing me off what the hell is this company doing to fix this!?!?

op your Gpu stopped working because of a driver error ... its very common and the reason Windows doesn't tell people to jump on the band wagon until drivers have been out for a good while
the only fix is to adjust your system settings into something more stable and that normally means rolling back a few driver ed
Quaudphonics no one can help you because you didn't tell us your system specx... i also assume you didn't do a clean install between moving from EA to release [just a guess]

System specs are as follows; i7 8700k 32 gigs of RAM 3080 TI 500 gig solid state. I would have given you my DX diag, but there is no option to do so, so I apologize I did a clean install, but then I realized that Larian likes to hide some of their files from back in 2020 where they didn't belong, so I had to literally go through with tooth and comb to find these files and pull them out, and it's still not working properly.

I started getting this issue after the recent driver update. Rolled back the driver and it stopped. I think this could be a nvidia issue rather than Larian. I now get an annoying message to update the driver every time I play but no way I'm doing that.

Hello guys, i have -i think- the same problem with the OP.
I am running an RTX 3060 ti with 10700k CPU, game is installed on Samsung 980 pro SSD and i have 16gb of memory. My OS is Win11.
My GPU keeps crashing while playing BG3. I have verified files, reinstalled game, tried both vulkan and dx11, i tried last 3 graphics drivers.
I even tried stuff in-game like capping fps, reducing load etc. Nothing seems to help so far.
Does anyone on earth know what the actual f this is? I played act I in early access and have been waiting for this game for so long and now i just can't play.
I don't have any such problems with any other games whatsoever.
Thanks in advance.

I am also experiencing this rather frustrating issue. I managed to reduce the frequency of the issue by disabling SteelSeries Moments screen capture software, however the issue still occurs at random. The issue results in both a game and display driver crash.
I have the latest Windows updates and display drivers installed. My PC specifications are:
• AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D • AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX • 64 GB RAM • Windows 10 Pro 64-bit (22H2) • AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition 23.7.2
I am playing the game in fullscreen mode on the Ultra graphics preset at 1080p/144 Hz with Vertical Sync (Triple Buffering) enabled.

Here's what I've learned on the issue:
With hotfix 2 something changed in the various exes the game uses, this can be seen by the other common crash people had with running the game as admin and it instantly crashing on startup starting in hotfix 2 (this is the launcher's fault). By turning off steam the game will boot just fine when it is being ran as admin.
Running the game in admin mode seemingly helps with this however, so if you can't live without steam achievements and playtime tracking, you have to set both the launcher and your exe of choice to run as admin, then the game will boot. Or you can turn off steam and run a desktop shortcut of your BG3 exe of choice as admin. Regardless of your choice, you should turn off steam overlay. In fact, turn off all overlays (discord, shadowplay etc) and screenrecorders and whatnot, this includes the xbox game bar (google how to uninstall it, it needs a powershell script)
Doing all of this still doesn't guarantee your game will run flawlessly with none of these crashes, but they should hopefully be significantly less common than they are as they are for me now. And interestingly, running the game in admin seems to introduce some mild graphical glitches (shadow flickering in the inventory screen, a couple of flashing pixels at the top of the screen)
Edited to include system specs and some minor details above:
OS: Win11, latest updates GPU: Intel Arc A770 16gb CPU: Ryzen 5600X Mobo x570 Aorus elite, Bios version F38b RAM: 32gb HDD: Installed on NVME SSD

It has nothing to do with settings, until hotfix 2 I played with all settings on max with no crashes or problems.
