They're nice features, but i wouldn't call the game unplayable without them. Also the game was clearly designed with a certain camera angle in mind since tilting it up too much reveals some incomplete visuals.

I need to get up there, but I can't see where to click because the camera is locked too low. Eventually I can find the right spot to be able to click there, but fighting the camera controls shouldn't be a core aspect of the game experience. ETA: it's also a beautiful world and was pretty disappointing that I couldn't even see so much of it with the default camera.

As far as WASD movement, if pathing was smarter, it wouldn't be as necessary, but pathing is dumb and characters love nothing more than to path through fire. Having to click in multiple little increments to get around it is cumbersome.

You don't think these are necessary for your game experience, that's fine. Some of us disagree and are here to ask for more functional controls. This is a suggestion forum, not a debate forum, and I'm breaking my own rules even replying to you. But I also think that it's useful for Larian to hear more about why we're asking for these features, so here I am.

It’s extremely puzzling to understand Larian not even remotely tweaking camera control, as for such a fantastic game, the camera is absolutely abysmal.

Totally feel for those on consoles not being able to utilize camera tweaks to fix it, as they are stuck with it as is.

Larian perhaps your wanting to keep people from seeing certain things, but perhaps you could at least give the camera an additional 10-15 degrees of tilt and a little more zoom in for looking at party characters.

Baring that, for whatever reasons in making visibility a challenge, at least put camera tweaks in as a “grab bag” item for those wishing to use on subsequent play throughs. Especially for the console players who have no options.

Targeting from a higher elevation to a lower elevation is sort of OK here, but the reverse is absolutely one of the most frustrating things about BG3 for me. Frequently it means having to pan and track around randomly until the camera automatically lifts or drops to the desired elevation, since there is no native way to access the Z Axis here to control that stuff manually.

This approach to directing our field of view has a number of drawbacks, but one that hasn't been mentioned yet is unintentionally camera spoiling an area for yourself when you're just trying to get a sightline for your cursor previews. Whatever we might gain from players not seeing the skyboxes load-in is then immediately lost due to this sort of edge panning through walls. Like it's basically trading one type of visual jank for another, but the downside is that doing it that way really punishes your inverts in the process.

Currently BG3 camera pitch doesn't even need the Thumbstick with the default layout we were given. The Y Axis control might as well just be a single button or a single stick like an old N64 controller scheme, since what we got right now isn't much better than that. Free Camera and WASD are separate things, but they're related. Right now the Camera orientation is anchored to the currently selected PC, which makes elevation changes for the Cam's POV particularly aggravating. The way it's designed right now has this strange circular logic of needing the PC to move in order to see the thing the thing they're trying to target, getting stuck in that loop.

Camera control Native Tweaks would be at the very tip top of my list for things I keep hoping they'll fix, since we can see better solution already via mods. Like just give us that, but built-in, and I would instantly be much happier. I want to get lost in the gameplay, but the UI for controlling the camera pulls me out of it, which isn't really the battle I'm looking for on this one haha

For me (on PC) patch 3 made the ability of the camera to handle elevation worse, and I've definitely encountered more issues with higher elevations not rendering and so not being able to move or target upwards since that was released. I guess the silver lining is that is does look as though Larian are trying to do something about the way the game handles elevation, it's just a pity that so far it seems to have made things worse rather than better.

Wholeheartedly agree. I was reluctant to download mods, but I've finally caved in and tried out the WASD movement + Native Camera Tweaks mods combo and they're really fun, even with the issues they sometimes have.

With how gorgeous this game looks, not having a comfortable third person + WASD movement feels like a waste. Using controller for movement and mouse+keyboard for everything else is an option, I guess, but constantly reloading UI and getting used to two UI layouts is bothersome.
