I think it's relationship based? If you've completely ignored him or rebuffed him she won't select him
Oh bummer, that is not good. I planned on getting rid by Halsin by letting him get abducted and "failing' the persuasion check.

@Zenith

I've never had to roll any checks when going to see Orin before Gortash. I've done a few playthroughs now in that way. Never once has my companion died.
The dialogue option I chose was to remind her that Sarevok ordered her mother to murder her and that just caused her to be unhinged.

My observations about this.

No matter what Yenna will arrive in your camp. In game terms she is a placeholder for a storyline in Act 3 should all 4 mentioned companions not be in your camp. There is a distinct hierarchy in which companion will be abducted (Halsin/Minthara seem to share the same placement) that can be used to manipulate who will be ultimately chosen. As mentioned, there is one known way ensure Yenna and Grub both live. I will not commit to say there are not others. It is simpler to save Yenna if she is abducted, however Grubs death in ensured.

My opinion is they should not have used a child and a pet for this given her fate under the vast majority of outcomes.

I think you are right - the kid and the cat are too much. In fact the whole Orin quest is just too edgelord for my tastes - the clown quest is stupid, gory and stupidly gory.

But I've managed two ways - Lae'zel in party going into sewers right away Halsin gets abducted.

Lae'zel out of party, Orin-Lae'zel has knife to Yenna's throat I persuade Orin to let Yenna go.

I've never romanced Halsin, have max approval with Lae'zel and I have high charisma and a persuasion proficiency.
