Subject : We need ONE SIMPLE BUTTON to switch between walk & run

Hi guys,

As an early player, playing your amazing game from the beginning (and i thank you a lot for this), i have a suggestion that, i know, is strongly wanted by all the the role players.

We are adventurers, and you offer us a LOT of possibilities to live an incredible journey.

BUT, as adventurers, we NEED to go for a WALK sometimes and not being in a constant running marathon.

We want to take time to contemplate our surroundings.
We want to take time to watch our characters evolving naturally in the Forgotten Realms.
We want to act like people who are part of this world.
We want to walk carefully to look for traps sometimes (instead of running into a bombing zone).

And running constantly is NOT a natural move, nor it is a "role playing" action.

You already have the animation for walking.
And i'm pretty sure you could implement this in a day.

approvegauntlet We just need ONE BUTTON to switch between walk & run laezelapprove

Could you give us this little touch of immersion that would bring so much joy and confort to role players ? smile

With all my love and gratitude. galehearteyes

The Captain.

Problem moved.

You get into combat and cannot run anymore... excepted if you aim to play a dress/undress loop gameplay.

That's the worst solution ever haha.

It's just NOT viable to work on being encumbered and then not, all the time.

Switching from running to walking should be as easy as an intention : click on button.

I have seen some threads about this topic on reddit and other forums.

Also, i found a mod named WALK OF LIFE on Nexus Mods to fix this.

Problem is that it was compatible with early access but it brokes the installation of the actual version haha.

What do you guys think about this simple feature ?

Would you appreciate the possibility to toggle run/walk ?

If so, i mean, if walking peacefully across the Forgotten Realms and approach traps like a pro is meaningful to you : Give some support to the thread ! laezelapprove

I agree with the sentiment here.

BG3 is magnificent in many ways. However, some small issues/ exclusions sometimes cause discomfort in the final experience literally mirroring the Hans Christian Anderson's fairy tale, 'The Princess and the Pea'. No one is at fault here, neither Larian nor the player. This game is very large in scope and hints at tremendous depths to be explored. This invariably causes one to turn up one's aesthetic sensibilities up to the proverbial 'eleven' in order to pick up the wonders inherent to the experience in all its grandeur, thereby also making it relatively easier to pick up aberrations/ errors/ problems that one would have forgiven/ not noticed otherwise. The game is as close to a modern CRPG masterpiece, hence our expectations are dialed up because Larian has proven themselves time and time again to actually care about their product and the players. If it were cookie cutter cash grab by the some of the titans (that shall remained unnamed) from the AAA industry, we would barely have cared because we have been conditioned as gamers to accept janky and sub-par products from them with no recourse.

TL;DR: Yes, one should be able to toggle walk/ run short distances and if I may, even swim short distances as well (especially if the Athletics skill has been checked). However I must state this is a nice to have, if Larian can implement it, and I will send all my love to the studio and its team, regardless.

Well this is a very good sentiment, and hits the nail on the head. You are correct that we want a 'perfect' game given the heritage of BG. Hopefully these 'minor' things will be addressed in due course (we are only at 1.0) because we really care about this game series and things like immersive UI, good quality books (they currently look like Word), walk/run, wider selection of char voices etc etc enhance our enjoyment of this pure quality escapism from everyday life.

I'm literally playing the game with a stack of crates in my main character's inventory so that I can walk through the world. It's a pain in the butt. Can we please have a toggle?

It sounds like this is an ask for a purely cosmetic feature that is a nice to have, but I think there are other priorities that Larian should direct resources into first.

It should be easy for them to do a toggle.

I am playing with controller, and depending on how much you push the walking stick, you either slow walk, fast walk or run. It is not the best option since if you wish to slow walk for 5 min., your thumb gets sore for keeping the stick in this "unnatural" position.

But the speeds are there, so a toggle just needs a button/slider smile

I would like one - also for controller

The game's been out 7 days (or 3 years depending on whether you brought up the request during EA). Be patient...

It's a good reminder this feature should exist, both from a gameplay (traps) and immersion (who runs everywhere?) standpoint.

Seems so simple to implement, makes you think they just didn't think it's necessary.

Yeah ! And in the same time, we CAN walk.

We just have to manage it with the camera an keep holding our left click button.

But it's really not comfortable if we wanna walk more than a minute.

The thing is :

- Animation exist
- Walking speed is already setup
- We can do it manually (but it's a mess to look around you while walking this way)

I mean, right now, they could just make a binding key to toggle walk/run, probably in a day.

My BELOVED devs, please, DO IT, and i'll send you a love letter galehearteyes

And you guys, if you would appreciate this easy, simple, basic and fundamental feature, please take time to support this post (and i'll send you a poem shadowheartgiggle).
