It seems, there's no satisfying way for a decent character.

I tried to stop him, but all the Droughs side with him instantly and they make short work of my party. Especially the sergeant deals a ridiculous amount of damage.

So I sided with him, which I didn't want to do. He got pushed into the lava, so I didn't even get his loot and still, I had to fight the whole dwelling. My party barely survived.

I tried it with my warlock, Shadowheart, Karlach and Tristarion. All level 5.

Fast traveled out of the Underdark. Came back he's dead and no one's there.

I made a deal with
the duergar elder and his rebels, killed the orb by luring it down a set of stairs and thus ensured the rebels' help.
That made the fight quite doable for me (level 5 party: Fiend warlock, Lae'zel, Shadowheart and Gale)

Yeah, I just found out and did it that way. Much easier and satisfying.

You can actually jump into the lava (with the use of a fire resistance potion) and recover his body and parasite).

I just killed the Duergar first and then I blew up the debris to fight Nere as well.

This seems to be the way the game intends you to do it for nice characters. The fight is mega hard otherwise.

For less nice characters: You can also kill everyone else in the room first before you let him out. Alternatively, fast travel or rest twice and come back, the duergar all leave if Nere suffocates, but leave his loot.

I killed all duergar first and then killed Nere alone. Easy battle at level 5.
Take guards one by one and groups one by one, then put your group at the end on the long corridor over the travel point and use your rogue to kill one duergar on the big room... some web and grease, and they will come one by one to your group... easy.

If you ally with rebels
and kill some guard you will get the "Enemy of Justify" permanent buff when rebels left.

Killed all of them, Nere and Duergars , they asked from me too much, and they slaughtered gnomes.

I side with the Elder and his party. The fight is easy enough if you let the two duergar factions fight each other while you try to concentrate on Nere. It's important to stay away from the edges as those duergar do like a good shove.
I had a problem in EA once where Nere got shoved into the lava by a duergar. I can't remember if the body was too far out in the lava or you can recover his gear but not his decapitated head for the myconid king. Either way, I was unable to close that quest.

After the fight you can persuade the Elder fella to leave the gnomes behind.

I found a hi ground position, separated my party into 2 spots, and started taking out the duergar. It was rough at times. Cloud of daggers kept them from coming up a ladder. Killed one guy...animated him into an archer. Grease on other avenues of approach. Corners to keep the archers from shooting as much as possible. Level 5 with Lazael, Shadowheart, Astarion, and myself as a Bard.
