There should be dice that are unlockable in game when you get a character's approval rating high enough.

Each character should have a die that's themed to them (colour and possibly font). As you get them up to a certain level of approval, you can now use their die.

There could also be other themed dice based on major events.
So for the early game, you could have two dice available, one green and leafy with flowery gold font if you save the Druids... one that's sickly green and has a rough font if you helped the Goblins.

I think that would be a neat little addition.

I would much prefer it if I never saw another die again. This is supposed to be an RPG not "Dice Watch".

So you want an RPG that's based on dice rolls to not have dice?

No, I want a game that doesn't show me dice rolls every five minutes. It doesn't do it during combat so why do I need to see it for skill checks etc? I can't think of another game where in-your-face dice rolls are a thing. And while we are here, if I make the roll why do I then have watch the bonuses get added? And while we are still here, if I fail the roll and the available bonuses wont get me over the line then why do I have to watch them get added anyway?

But... it's D&D. Dice rolls is half the point.
I mean, there's countless games out there where dice rolls are hidden... but people who play D&D like their dice.

The whole dice thing is fundamental to DND. It's a huge component of the whole tabletop social experience. People have their dice. People share their dice. People watch their dice. People make their dice. People talk about luck in rolling dice. It's hard to imagine playing tabletop with a random number generator.

Yeah, I have my dice that I've been using for ages. My friends call them my loaded dice because they tend to work in my favor. And when others roll them they get crap rolls. lol
All of us have our favorite sets of dice. We also tend to have separate sets based on what we're playing. A set for D&D, a set for Pathfinder, a set for Star Wars, a set for Shadowrun, etc...

Being able to have more dice to choose from would only add to the game. Just don't make them DLC or something stupid like that. Make them tied to your actions in game.

But we aren't talking about table top. In 20-25 years of playing CRPGs I cannot recall ever having dice rolls on screen, let alone every five minutes. The fact that you are on first name terms with your dice is not a compelling argument for their inclusion in a computer game or for anything else really.

+1 I think that this would be a really cool addition to the game!

This game is clearly inspired by tabletop and the vibe Larian has been pursuing is one of simulating a tabletop experience. Part of the process for making the game was a bunch of people doing the story like a tabletop module and then using that as options for actions.

One game to look at (though not copy, because they monetized the hell out of it) is Armello.
It's a digital board game where four players compete to try and beat the king. It's somewhat RPG-ish with a card system. It WAS fun, until the online turned into toxic sludge.

But in that game you could get all sorts of different dice to use. They did a drop system (don't do that Larian). But you could unlock dice that were themed on the various characters, as well as nature and corruption dice.

Something like that would be awesome to see in BG3.
Dice based on each character.
Maybe an Illithid die.
Perhaps class based dice?

Technically there was an illithid purple die but it was exclusive to the collectors edition.

itd be nice to have die just so when you roll youd know who was rolling and add in for nonreaction rolls (like say unlocking a door outside of battle) the ability to cycle through your party to see who has what chances/modifiers ?

Minthara is the best character and she NEEDS to be recruitable if you side with the grove!
Also- I support the important thread in the suggestions: Let everyone in the Party Speak
