I don't know about you guys, but I find most of the helmets and headgear annoying (except for the circlets and wizard's hats). So I toggle them to be invisible -- in both cutscenes and during gameplay. However, the problem here is that whenever you dismiss a companion and they go back to their spot in the camp, their helmets would reappear after a long rest. So once I get them to join me again, I have to toggle the helmets off all over again.

The worst thing that happened to me regarding this is during the ending.
I did not have Karlach join me during the final battle. So during the ending cutscene where she's dying, her ugly-ass helmet has reappeared and was now covering her entire face. So as she lay there crying in pain because her engine is going off and she's about to die, I just could not absorb that powerful emotional moment because that stupid helmet is blocking her face.

So please, I hope this issue would get fixed. If I toggle the helmets invisible, please have them STAY invisible for the rest of the game.

Helmlets and gear are another thing that is poorly made in the "best PC game of all time". Even in the low budget PF games it is much better done.

I would recommend reporting this as a bug to Larian if you haven't already - there's a Report a Bug link up along the top of the launcher.

I agree it's annoying that helmets reappear, though I hadn't yet worked out exactly when it happens,.

Yeah, the helmets seem to reappear after a long rest, or whenever you leave and come back to camp.

Try using the individual inventory menu instead of the party inventory menu.

I believe if you use the party menu then it resets their settings after being dismissed, however if you use their individual inventory by first selecting them and then opening it, I believe it should save the option.

I've done so for my companions and their settings all stick after being dismissed.

For me, the helmet status ALWAYS resets on all my NON-GROUP characters after a long-rest.

Example:
Have Lae'zel in the party.
Have her helmet completely hidden at all times.
Dismiss her from the party back to the camp.
Long-rest.
Her helmet is once again, visible. Walking up to her to ask her to rejoin the part has her helmet in the cutscene.

It is annoying as hell that as soon as someone's out of the party it forgets if you selected to hide helmets. That 100% needs to be remembered by the game.

It is not a bug - it's a personal preference - besides that it is only a "nice to have" feature and should therefore be very far down on Larian's list of bug fixes and features to to implement. If it were to be implemented the option "Show/Hide Head Gear" should probably be in the "Gameplay" settings section (ESC menu).

Hide helmet should mean hide / take off while exploring and talking. But not in combat, right? You put your helmet ON when you go to battle. That's the purpose of it, anyway. Would be pretty stupid if you have it equipped but it's not visible in combat.

There's an option to have it off for cutscenes, and another option to having it off permanently. Personally, I run the latter. Regardless, it doesn't remember the settings either way. I classify it as a bug.

Why are you wearing helmets in the first place if you want them permanently invisible? Just unequip it.

There are already options for Show/Hide always/Hide in cutscenes in the game, just above the helmet equipment slot. The issue is that sometimes when you remove someone from your party the option you have chosen gets reset, which seems unlikely to be intended behaviour and therefore, if it niggles anyone, they are more than free to report it to Larian as a bug. I'm sure Larian would then prioritise it as they saw fit based on their own cost/benefit analysis.

The buffs/skills they provide? Sorry not sorry, but some of those helms are hideous and they always show back up even when the hide always option has been selected.
