I generally dislike resting as a mechanic, as it takes me out of the flow and momentum, but I see the use in driving the companion storylines forward and as a central hub in lack of a major city.
But, I can live with resting after every two fights or so, however I encountered something that bothered me in Act I and that made me even more hesitant about resting. So, I came to Waukeen's Rest on Day 2 or 3 and saw all those guys trying to hold the door. I figured that I was too exhausted to deal with any more fights, so I ported to the grove sold items and went for a long rest. I returned to the Inn and saw that the doors had been broken, the soldiers being killed for the most part and hostages taken. This annoyed me, since I specifically rested for the encounter (and I saw that one video of the Gnome rolling a natural 20 just to kick down that door).
Ever since I rest very rarely, because I have multiple quests that appear time-sensitive. Like people taken hostage and people in my camp for safety in Act II. Good examples are the gnomes later in the Underdark or my favourite Tiefling being abducted by beasts. This has quite the ramifications as I will hold back on spells or abilities in fear of accidentally killing people off-screen or missing out on certain objectives. I save-scum a lot because of that as well, as I just do not want the story to progress without me taking part in it.
So my question is, are there many other time-sensitive quests or events, or can I jsut rest in relative ease, without fear of the story taking a spin just because I wanted my fireball back?
