During EA we had "option" (for lack of better therm) to put torch on our hotbar ... and swap it with our weapon by clicking it.

But as we did so our weapon skills dissapeared ... wich sucked, especialy for people like me, who suffers from compulsive urge to sort icons on bar the way we want ...
Second problem then was accidental selling, bcs vendor allways acess our whole inventory and, lets be honest, its a mess ...

So naturaly i was exited when i have seen Torch slot ...

I thought that maybe its that tools slot we were suggesting ...
So we can put torch, or lantern there ... and have both problems solved, since the torch is equipped ... so its not in our inventory, and it dont unequip our weapons so our icons stay put where we set them ...
I even get a step futher to hope that my dwarf (who dont really need a torch most of the time, duh) will be able to equip a shovel there for same benefits.

But as we all know by now ... neither of that is true.

Torch "slot" is not even a real slot ... since the torch is still inside our inventory, we still loose pur icons when we swap it, we still can accidentally sell it, we still cant use this "semi slot" for any other tool.

And therefore im asking ... what is its purpose?

Bcs as it seems to me, the only benefit it brings is that it saves single (1) slot on our inifinitely expandable bar, that is still getting filled with bambillion other stuff.
So ... is that it? :-/

Act 2.

If there was no torch slot act 2 would have been an absolute ball ache (pun intended_

You can't just unequip the lantern for fights in Act II so the slot isn't really useful there. It's just for quickly getting a lightsource out while exploring. Except even the darkest dungeons of the goddess of darkness are very well lit in this game. They just couldn't let go of having every place in the game look really pretty.

You clearly didnt read too well ...

Few notes:
1) And most important one, in Shadowcursed lands you dont really need a torch, you need source of light.
So ... Light, Dancing Lights, Produce Fire, Flame Blade, Eveburning Blade, ... and basicaly anything else that iluminates its surounding (so for a short wile maybe even dip into fire) should work with no problem at all.

2) As i said abowe, we allready had option to swap our weapon for torch ... it worked exactly the same as this ...
So there is no change there.

3) As i also said abowe, my main problem with this so called "slot" is that its not working as a slot ...
Its just some weird kind of "checkbox" that is linked to your inventory, where only one thing can be put (notice i didnt say equipped) and using it makes no differnce, from having the thing (torch) laying in your inventory.

You know what is working as a Slot? > Everything else to be honest. laugh
You can equip things there ... and those things dissapear from your inventory ... bcs you have them equipped ... torch "slot" doesnt doo that.
You can freely swap between things (meele and ranged equipment) ... im not really sure, but i would swear that swaping back to my weapon in combat cost me an action ... torch "slot" doesnt do that.
You can set things the way you want them ... sometimes you want to have your weapon ready and carry your torch instead of your shield ... sometimes you rather have a shield prepared, but will like to carry torch instead of your weapon ... torch "slot" is picking this for you ... and i would even dare to say that it picks randomly, but i dint do any dedicated testing, so this is pure feeling from me.

Or other way around ... feel free to concider this topic to be suggestion and feedback one.
Please Larian, make Torch slot work like an ACTUAL equipment slot!

Prefferably as a tool slot, so we can put shovel there ... that would be very usefull for whole rest of the game, with small exception for begining of Shadowcursed lands, until we get other means to protect oureselves.

I'm not saying it's perfect, but I have found having the "Toggle Light Source" option when carrying a torch at least more convenient than in EA when we had to actually swap our melee weapons around if we wanted to use a torch.

I do wish that we'd toggle back to our melee weapons when just clicking the melee weapon icon to the right of our portraits, though. It took me a while to work out that I have to re-click the "Toggle Light Source" icon again before I could melee attack with my normal weapons. Or at least I think that was what was happening.

And I agree it would be better if we could actually move a light source into the slot and out of our inventory so we didn't sell it by accident. I also wanted to be able to use the lanterns we found in the shadow-cursed lands, but I think only torches are allowed!

That, and mainly and most importantly ... geting rid of dissapearing icons. -_-

Make them grey out if they are unusable, but stop rearanging my bar for anyone sake!
