As a big fan of the game, I'm not sure I agree with the metascore. For me, the game is definitely above an 85, but below a 95. The userscore puts it at 9.1-9.2, and the Steam reviews put it at 94%. I think somewhere in the 92 range, plus or minus 1, is the right score. There are cracks in the later Acts, a lack of total party characterization (banter and companion-to-companion dialogue), places where it is easy to miss out on essential quests or content, certain moments of inconsequentiality in decision-making (later game), and some built-up moments that disappoint. I'd be more specific but I don't want to spoil.

However, what is there is done masterfully. So 92 it is for me.

I agree a great game with great potential. I really think they should try to do what Neverwinter Nights did with the DLC and modules. Having all this extra content would be awesome especially if they could adapt some classic D&D modules to this game engine.

42 reviews in and it’s still stuck at 97. Very impressive.

Now let’s see Paul Allen’s CRPG

If everyone ("everyone" being merely everyone *they* know) is saying a certain thing then they as individuals feel a strong compulsion to conform to that herd, because to write something that goes against what "everyone" is saying is not "cool."

I'm hoping this will spearhead more CRPGS and fewer games with MTX and DRM.

You have a chance on the former.
Zero chance on the latter.

Finally a somewhat more balanced and fair review of BG3:

Great article describing PC Gamer’s BG3 score!

Baldur's Gate 3 is PC Gamer's highest scoring game in 16 years. Here's why (https://www.pcgamer.com/baldurs-gate-3-is-pc-gamers-highest-scoring-game-in-16-years-heres-why/):

Quote
How momentous Baldur's Gate 3's score is depends on which lineage of PC Gamer's history you follow. It is, in one sense, the highest score we've awarded in 16 years. In another sense, though, it is the highest score we have ever awarded.

Gamespot finally got their review up! It took them so long, I thought they had passed on reviewing it for some reason. They gave it a 10! celebrate
