Basically as the title says. I know that in FR a paladin doesn't need to be a follower of a deity since their power comes from their oath, but to me it's stupendously dumb of Larian to force you to first create a cleric protag, and then dual class into paladin in order to get the dialogue options specific to a paladin of say Selune. And guess what? If you make the char a paladin first, and then cleric, it doesn't even match the dialogue of being a paladin of a deity, it marks you as being a cleric of said deity, not a paladin.

Why in the bloody hell did they do it this way? It would've been so much easier to just give the paladin the option on whether or not they were a follower of a deity on char creation, and it would also solve the issue of the player essentially losing out on an entire level worth of power on their paladin class that had to be forced to be allocated to the very first cleric level. And the dialogue options are there already, so why would you lock them behind having to multi-class in such a convoluted way in order to get them? From a gameplay perspective that just doesn't make sense. And yeah I know in 5e only clerics pick a deity, but from how far Larian has already deviated from 5e would it really matter in the grant scheme of things if they allowed the paladin (or hell, any class for that matter) to pick a deity that they follow?

We have a thread already talking about deity choice at https://forums.larian.com/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=880655 that you should feel free to add to.

We've also had more than one discussion specifically about paladins in the context of this choice in the course of early access, if you're interested in what others have said on the topic and can track them down.

I'll just lock this thread though, to try to keep duplicate discussions to a minimum.
