I thought many things about the creche plot were nonsensical, and that encounter was the icing on the cake. I reloaded a much earlier save and just avoided the mountain pass - sorry Lae'zel.
You skipped a whole section of the game? Does it not have ramifications if you never encounter the Gith?
Skipping whole sections of the game seems to be the best way to play this game.
