I thought many things about the creche plot were nonsensical, and that encounter was the icing on the cake. I reloaded a much earlier save and just avoided the mountain pass - sorry Lae'zel.
Does it not have ramifications if you never encounter the Gith?
None, except some extra XP and few extra dialogues here and there but nothing affecting the end result. My first playthrough on Tactician I skipped entirely the mountain pass and githianky creche thinking once I go through the Underdark I won't be able to go other way or I'm affecting the plot in some way. Now I am rushing a new fast playthrough on explorer mode to experience both zones before going to the shadow land.
