The thing I wanted out that scene was to explain why I stabbed her. My theories up until that point were that the guardian was:

1. The tadpole itself
2. Shar
3. An elder brain

So the "stab" was intended to A) dispel the illusion and force the guardian to reveal their true nature B) make it clear I didn't appreciate being lied to, manipulated and encouraged to make my infection worse

As I read it wasn't a 'live' meeting at all - it was a projected image.
