Background: I don't DnD all that often (in fact NWN2 was the last time I played anything that uses one of the DnD rulesets), so going through the various classes and subclasses for BG3 a class called "Eldritch Knight" caught my eye as something I'd like to play.. however upon further investigation it appears that the DnD definition of an Eldritch Knight isnt what comes to mind when I think of one.
So I am looking to put together a build that better represents what I think of as an Eldritch Knight - which is more of a "Fae Knight" than a Warrior/Wizard hybrid.
To which:
Primarily a melee fighter in heavy armour (for personal preference this would either be wielding a Great Sword or Sword and Board)
A trickster (so a proficiency in Deception)
Using magic with a focus on Nature or Decay to disorient or gain an advantage over the enemy or augment his damage.
A Warrior/Druid multiclass would seem to fit the bill.. BUT that would required too broad a spend on ability points to feel viable.
I've seen a Warrior/Pact of the Blade Warlock build that covers a lot of the bases and would do if I can't find anything better - I'd take Archfey as subclass for RP reasons and access to the more "Nature" based spells rather than the suggested The Fiend.
I was considering a Spore Druid/Ranger build (taking Ranger Knight for the Favoured Enemy to get access to Heavy Armour) as druid spells feel the best fit and the Spore Druid focus/features lends itself to that kind of sinister edge to the character - but am struggling to figure out the best level split and Ranger Subclass to take for that.
So essentially I'm looking for:
Help figuring out the level split and Ranger subclass for a Spore Druid/Ranger multiclass
Any other suggestions of class combinations to achieve the above.
