Game started to randomly do this last evening.

Goes through both splash screens (Larian and NVidia screen) and then starts to load in. Gets to 60% each time, freezes, crash to desktop.

I've tried all the CTD fixes (turning admin mode on and off, verifying files, updating drivers, etc) but nothing has remedied the problem.

I have not been able to get into the game far enough to load a game, or try a new game, this happens before I can even get to this screen.

Loading with Vulkan gets me to 67% and then it crashes. Loading with DirectX gets to about 50% and then crashes.

Not sure what else I can do. I'm afraid to uninstall and reinstall because I don't know if I'll lose my saves (have about 70 hours in). Any suggestions? frown

Did you install a hotfix yesterday?

I did. I assume it has something to do with the hotfix and the rollback, but I'm not sure. I can't get far enough into the game to see what my version number is to know for sure what version my game is sitting at.

Actually now that I see on the launcher, I am running 4.1.1.3648072. So Hotfix #4. Not sure if that's helpful at all.

Maybe take your save for safe keeping and do full clean install. Meaning that delete bg3 tempmfiles and profiles and all + of course game uninstall and game folder delete.

Saves and profiles and stuff is in C:\Users\<UserName>\AppData\Local\Larian Studios

I'm having the exact same issue since the hotfix. Let me know if you find something that works.

I'm considering uninstalling and reinstalling on a different drive. I'm just afraid to lose my saves. I did find where they are so maybe I can move them, but I just worry I might lose all that progress still.

Save games C:\Users\<your username>\AppData\Local\Larian Studios\Baldur's Gate 3\PlayerProfiles\Public\Savegames

Installing to different drive does not change anything unless you delete whole folder C:\Users\<yourusername>\AppData\Local\Larian Studios\Baldur's Gate 3 after you took your save games for safe keeping.

Actually deleting C:\Users\<yourusername>\AppData\Local\Larian Studios\Baldur's Gate 3 could work even without uninstall and reinstall.

Thanks for the heads up Cirrus550. I'm hoping that a reinstall to another drive, and deleting those folders will help. I'm still holding out for a fix from Larian or some sort of information, but it's disheartening not hearing much of anything even though this sounds like a fairly widespread problem.

Now assuming it is local setting, cache etc corruption (fixed by full clean install) Larian can not fix it any way. Only thing they can fix is prevent it happening in future.

I have the exact same problem: loads up to 50% with dx11 and 67% with vulkan. Except that when it crashes I get ŕ bsod with tdr video failure/ nvlddmkm.sys error.
Oddly enough, my system managed to go past that loadibg screen 3 times.
I am unable to narrow down the issue. Tried everything i could find about bsod/nvlddmkm.sys errors.
My spec: nvdia gtx 1050 with 4go vrai.
I know it s a bit low for this game but the times it went past the loading screen, the game ran well at medium.

Yep Tots, this is -exactly- my issue (though I've never gotten through the load screen at all). I don't see any error when it occurs afterwards though. Still nervous to do a reinstall, even with preserving my saves, not sure if it'll take or not. For better or worse I'm pretty busy today and tomorrow so either way I wouldn't get much play time in, so hoping for some fix or something from Larian, but who knows?

A few small findings just from my digging (I don't know if any of this means anything).

When I run a file verification on my game, it always finds one file missing. I searched Steam's log to find what was missing, and it says:

"0 chunks corrupt and 1044 chunks missing of 1064 total in file "Data\Patch0_Hotfix4.pak"

That file creation date in my folder is exactly when my game stopped working. I don't know if that's the issue or not, but it seems suspect, I think. My SO has BG 3 and theirs is working great. I may try to delete the file and let it redownload first. and if that doesn't work, I may copy their version of the file and put it in my game and see if that somehow fixes it.

So far, it's been fixed!

Interesting turn of events on my end:

I tried to copy "Patch0_Hotfix4.pak" to another location on my drive, but I was getting an error stating that the file could not be read / moved.

So I just deleted it.

I didn't run any file verification or anything, I just went into the game and it loaded up fine. Even my latest save loaded up without any issues!

Double checked the folder where that file originally was, it's not there. The latest file is Hotfix3.pak.

Going to play the game and hope it doesn't die on me.

Did you do full cleanup + reinstall as last step? At same time also? Other person had local file corruption as cause. That is something Larian can not fix, but actions of iser are required.

Full instructions below just in case you did not:
Full clean up and reinstall. Just uninstalling game files do not clean your settings and mods etc..
1. Locate your game folder with steam (or other means)
2. Uninstall
3. Delete your game folder
4. Delete C:\Users\<UserName>\AppData\Local\Larian Studios\Baldur's Gate 3
5. Delete (if exists) C:\Users\<UserName>\Documents\Larian Studios\Baldur's Gate 3
6, Delete (if exists) C:\Users\<UserName>\OneDrive\Documents\Larian Studios\Baldur's Gate 3 (Your OneDrive location can vary)

Note all local saves, mods and settings are lost. Copy your save for safekeeping if you want.
