Okay, so here's how to win:

1). Play as Astarion
2). Ascend
3). Go to Avernus (where Zariel is supposedly spooked)
4). Freedom?

I'm not sure if anyone else has a chance, though Minthara (!) and Gale certainly seem willing to keep searching for a cure/attempt to overthrow Zariel.
