I would like the four least popular races to be fixed. They all lost abilities in the transition from 5e to BG3, which didn't happen to the more popular races. If you add new races, the four least popular... will just remain the four least popular. Halflings need Stealth Proficiency. Rock/Deep/Forest Gnomes need Expertise in Sleight of Hand/Stealth/Animal Handling. Dwarves need Shield Proficiency (and Shield Dwarves need another Armor Proficiency). Githyanki need Psionic Resistance. Put all the races on equal footing before adding new ones.
I think you could also add Artificers, at the very least just to have another class that relies on INT. Clerics are the least popular class, so maybe some subclasses would boost them a bit. Swashbuckler Rogue sounds coolest though.
I agree with all your suggestions. Plus I would like the traditional roll for stats option and the 5e stat distribution so that races feel more distinct.
Totally, but I feel like the stat distribution has sailed due to instructions from on high (WotC). At this point I think we would get more traction by suggesting alternative feats/traits. Like if you give Shield Dwarves Medium Armor + Shield and bump it up to Heavy if Class grants Medium or up to Heavy Armor Master if Class grants Heavy, at least Shield Dwarves would have their niche. I don't know what to say about the stupid Light Armor + Shield + Polearms for Humans and Half-Elves, but giving humans a feat instead of all their crap would make them interesting; and that is pretty close to variant Human. Half-Elves are much trickier and I could easily see 6 different suggestions about how to fix them from 6 different people. I think I might make the Half-Elf choice cosmetic and have you pick either the Human benefits or the Elf benefits, but I imagine 5 out of 6 players wouldn't like that.
